Portfolio Company Background
Michigan Rail is a Brookfield Infrastructure investment consisting of a joint venture with a leading railcar lessor and a wholly owned fleet of approximately 100,000 railcars and 23,000 locomotives. The assets provide critical infrastructure for the North American transport network.
Role Overview
The Head of Finance will be based in Toronto and be accountable for all finance function elements supporting Brookfieldโs interests in the Joint Venture and the wholly-owned fleet. The role requires collaboration with the JV partner, Brookfield Investment and Portfolio Management teams, and accounting and tax service providers to build and optimize the finance function and drive value creation within this investment. Travel to Chicago may be required a few times a year.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead preparation of quarterly and annual audited financial statements in conjunction with the JV partner and accounting service providers.
- Own the financial forecast, operating KPIs, liquidity and distributions forecasts for both businesses.
- Oversee tax provision and tax compliance work with the tax service provider.
- Maintain valuation models for the investments, asset pricing, and sale tools to support re-leasing and sale decisions.
- Provide recurring updates to Brookfield on investment performance.
- Lead debt compliance for secured financing and revolving credit facilities.
- Oversee treasury and payments, collaborating with Brookfield Treasury and the JV partner.
Technical Skills and Experience
- Bachelorโs degree in accounting, finance, economics, business or related discipline.
- Professional designation (CPA, CA, CFA) preferred.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in accounting, audit, transaction services, infrastructure, asset management or corporate finance.
- Strong Excel skills and ability to work with large financial models and datasets.
- Excellent understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and debt obligations.
- Strong analytical, problemโsolving and detail orientation.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with finance and nonโfinance stakeholders.
- Proactive, organized and capable of managing multiple deliverables under tight deadlines.
- Interest in infrastructure, asset management, and investment operating companies.
