NOW HIRING: Seeking Bread Baker for our Production Team!
We're looking for an additional team member for our Bread Production team. This position is part-time, with availability required from Thursday - Sunday.
(Please do not apply if you're not available on those days.)

In this part-time role, you will assist our bread production, working within a team of 4-5 team members. Our bread production focuses on naturally leavened (sourdough) breads. We are a production bakery. Meaning we make lots of the same products each week. The beauty is in the craftsmanship and adjusting minor details from week to week. It is strenuous, physical work--you will be on your feet for the duration of the shifts (outside of breaks, of course!)
You will also learn how to mill whole grain flour on our stone mill. We incorporate this freshly milled flour into all our bread products. If you have a passion for the science of sourdough bread, take pride in keeping your workspaces clean as you work, and enjoy the collaboration of teamwork, this could be the perfect entry point into our bakery! Part-time positions often grow into full-time positions here at Bread Bike Bakery. We are prioritizing folks with prior bakery production experience, although we will train the right person given enough commitment.


Responsibilities Include:

Mixing and Baking:

  • Mix all doughs as per daily processes and production schedules.
  • Monitor fermentation of all doughs to ensure proper development, flavor, and consistency day-to-day.
  • Handle, divide, and shape loaves/baguettes efficiently.
  • Operate and maintain all baking equipment properly.
  • Bake off bread during the morning shift according to required quantities (training provided).

Preparation:

  • Mix starters based on daily schedules.
  • Engage in production prep including scaling dry mixes, toasting and soaking ingredients, chopping/roasting vegetables, etc.
  • Mill flours using guidelines, ensuring understanding of flour consistency while maintaining mill cleanliness.
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines, including proper food handling, storage, and sanitation.

Packing and Organization:

  • Slice (if required) and pack baked goods ensuring organized setup for deliveries and farmers markets.
  • Set up bags/packaging based on weekly needs.

Cleaning:

  • Take responsibility for cleaning tasks throughout the shift including sweeping, washing dishes, wiping down surfaces, and trash disposal.
  • Ensure the dish pit is emptied/reset at the beginning of each shift.
  • Thoroughly clean at the end of the shift.

Set-Up and Maintenance:

  • Set up baskets based on daily production numbers.
  • Reset baskets on speed racks.
  • Maintain equipment and tools ensuring cleanliness and longevity. This includes wiping out baskets, cleaning the deck oven, oiling wood tables, etc.
  • Refill containers of flour and seeds as required.
  • Organize and consolidate storage spaces for easy accessibility.

Requirements:

  • Comfortable standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to comfortably lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Possess an up-to-date Certified California Food Handler’s Card within 30 days of hire
  • Abide by all guidelines and instructions in the General Employee Handbook

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Complete daily checklists ensuring product quality and adherence to processes.

Schedule: MUST be available to work Thursday through Sunday each week
Compensation: $20.00/hr plus pooled tips which average an additional $3-4 more per hour = $23-24/hr
