Job description

CNC Operator / Programmer

Seaworthy is looking for a CNC operator and programmer to develop and run the wood production side of our business. Currently, the product line is based around premium products for the home: specifically artisan-quality drinkware sets, cocktail-making tools and related products.

This person will raise the bar on product quality and fabrication efficiency through smarts and creativity and they’ll help to build a healthy, creative, and inspiring workplace.

It’s early in the development of the business and we’re looking for someone to be an integral part in bringing the vision life. You won't be a cog in a machine; you'll be central to how our products get made and how the company evolves.

Seaworthy’s flagship workshop & design office is located in the historic maritime district of Ballard.

Responsibilities

  • Generate & Optimize 3D cutting paths using Fusion360
  • Operate CNC routers to machine hardwoods to tight tolerances (other materials as well: solid-surface, cork, metal, etc)
  • Machine complex 3D forms, detailed v-carve inlays, and 4th Axis parts
  • Develop tooling and jigs for material holding and for other needs in the shop
  • Perform machine maintenance, calibration, and basic troubleshooting
  • Manage materials efficiently - part nesting, waste reduction, and stock tracking
  • Work with the broader team to flag design issues that affect machinability or yield
  • Work closely with the owner on production planning, scheduling, & priorities
  • Since we are a small team, collaborating with and assisting other members of the crew with their tasks when needed is critical

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience operating a CNC router - professional or serious hobbyist backgrounds both welcome
  • Working knowledge of at least one CAM platform for generating and editing toolpaths (Ideally Fusion360)
  • Woodshop skills are a plus - prepare stock for machining and post-process the parts when necessary
  • A detail-oriented personality - quality isn't negotiable
  • A good communicator
  • Organized & steady under pressure - even when juggling multiple tasks
  • A self-starter - anticipate what needs to be done & do it

Compensation

  • Part-time to start, with hours growing alongside production volume
  • Pay will be based on experience - the priority is to find the right person and build the role and pay rate around their skills
