As a
Shift Lead, you'll play a key role in maintaining quality, consistency, and team energy during your shifts. You're the right hand to the Coffee Shop Lead and the go-to support for baristas and cashiers. You lead by example, keep standards high, and make sure every shift runs like a well-pulled espresso shot-smooth, balanced, and full of good flavor.
This is a great step-up role for baristas looking to take on more leadership and responsibility in a fast-paced, coffee-loving environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Quality Control
- Ensure drinks, food, and customer service consistently meet Birch Coffee's standards.
- Coach and support team members to deliver top-tier beverages and experiences.
- Regularly taste and evaluate drinks for quality and consistency.
- Leadership by Example
- Demonstrate expert barista skills and warm, welcoming customer service.
- Uphold company protocols (punctuality, dress code, service, etc.).
- Confidently open or close the store and guide the team through smooth transitions.
- Train and mentor new team members using company SOPs.
- Product Knowledge
- Understand coffee offerings, roasting dates, and storage best practices.
- Stay informed about food offerings and communicate allergen/ingredient info clearly.
- Maintain "First In, First Out" systems to reduce waste and ensure freshness.
- Communication
- Share updates on promos, products, or procedures with the team clearly and consistently.
- Offer kind, honest, and effective feedback to elevate team performance.
- Collaborate with your Coffee Shop Lead to ensure everyone is in the loop.
