Summary

This position is responsible for complex secretarial and clerical duties to support the Immigration Department of the Bexar County Public Defender's Office. Under general supervision, is responsible for complex secretarial or clerical duties; prepares complex reports; maintains computerized files; assists with Immigration Department of the Bexar County Public Defender's Office. Through this Department the Bexar County Public Defender's Office provides legal representation to indigent arrested persons who are not a United States citizen. The successful candidate will support attorneys in Department in addition to assisting in the reporting requirements in support of the grant, which funds this program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directly assists with providing assistance to attorneys in immigration department.

  • Creates files, downloads discovery, closes out cases, maintains data on caseloads, noncitizens, case outcomes

  • Sends emails to non-citizen's attorney notice that their client was assessed as a non-citizen and resource list

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Skill in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and job-related software programs

  • Knowledge of trial proceedings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate in English and Spanish.

    • Tasks and special requirements unique to an individual office or department may be addressed through a separate list of detailed specifications prepared by that office/department and subject to approval by Human Resources.

    • Office/department specifications may not be more complex nor at a higher level of responsibility than any of those contained in this position description.
