Job description

Summer is a season of discovery, joy, and growing in faith together. The Summer Camp Teacher supports Bethel Lutheran Church during Preschool Vacation Bible School by planning and implementing a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate summer camp experience for enrolled children. This short-term position is ideal for an educator who thrives in a hands-on, play-centered environment and enjoys creating flexible, creative programming that keeps young learners active and excited. Through meaningful activities, attentive supervision, and a caring presence, this individual helps children build friendships, explore their world, and experience God’s love in tangible ways while supporting Bethel’s mission to Connect, Grow, and Serve.

Requirements:
  • Experience working with preschool or elementaryage children (classroom, camp, childcare, or similar setting)
  • Education or training in early childhood education preferred, but not required
  • Strong communication skills with children, families, and staff
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and church leadership
  • Successful completion of background checks as required by Wisconsin licensing and Bethel Highlands Preschool policies
  • Current or willingness to obtain Infant/Child CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (preferred)
  • Responsibilities:Planning and Preparation Duties:
  • Plan curriculum and a daily camp schedule prior to the start of the camp week
  • Prepare ageappropriate activities that support social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual development
  • Coordinate activities that align with the overall Vacation Bible School theme when appropriate
  • Gather, organize, and prepare materials needed for camp activities
  • Classroom and Camp Duties:
  • Set up and take down daily activities, learning centers, and materials
  • Supervise and ensure the safety of all students enrolled in the camp at all times
  • Lead and facilitate structured and unstructured activities including art, movement, games, music, sensory play, and outdoor experiences
  • Create a positive, welcoming, and inclusive camp environment
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom and activity space
  • Follow all Bethel Highlands Preschool policies and Wisconsin state licensing standards during camp hours
  • Communication and Teamwork:

  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 40 pounds (including lifting children, activity equipment, and classroom materials)
  • Ability to bend, kneel, squat, sit on the floor, and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors
  • Ability to engage in physical activities such as walking, light running, and participating in games
