Organizational Overview:
The mission of the Bergen County's Alternatives to Domestic Violence (ADV) is to partner with individuals and groups to prevent and eliminate domestic violence, dating abuse, and other forms of intimate partner violence, through comprehensive service approaches that strategically address the multifaceted causes and effects of abuse in diverse communities, such as prevention education, crisis intervention, legal advocacy, evidence-based counseling programs, and coordinated community responses to violence.
Job Description:
This employment opportunity is to serve as a Family Counselor to facilitate court mandated group programming for individuals who have used abusive behaviors in intimate partner relationships. Under direction, will perform a variety of routine field and office work involved in community-oriented programs. This position delivers structured, evidence based psychoeducational programming focused on offender accountability, behavior change, and victim/survivor safety.
Job Responsibilities:

• Facilitate psychoeducational group sessions for individuals who have caused harm through domestic violence, dating abuse, or intimate partner violence.
• Deliver structured abuse intervention curriculum using evidence-based models and trauma-informed approaches.
• Conduct intake assessments, screenings, and individual sessions with program participants.
• Monitor participant progress, attendance, and compliance with program requirements.
• Prepares suitable reports containing an evaluation of the case, participant records, progress notes, and program documentation.
• Consults with probation officers, courts, attorneys, and referral sources regarding participant compliance and progress.
• Facilitate both English and Spanish language groups to serve the diverse community population.
• Provide individual counseling and crisis intervention services to program participants and their families.
• Conduct comprehensive risk and safety assessments.
• Develop individualized service plans and monitor progress toward goals.
• Where warranted, refers individuals to community resources including mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and social services.
• Establishes and maintains satisfactory working relationships with community organizations through discussions, conferences, meetings and lectures.
• Assist in developing and delivering community education programs on domestic violence prevention.
• Participate in community outreach events, awareness campaigns, and training workshops.
• Contribute to the development of culturally responsive educational materials, particularly for Spanish-speaking communities.
• Organizes assigned work and develops effective work methods.
• Establish and maintain records and files in compliance with agency, county, and state requirements.
• Prepare statistical, evaluative, and analytical reports on program outcomes.
• Participate in quality assurance activities and program evaluation processes.

Schedule:

• Full time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday.
• Occasional overtime, evenings, or weekend hours for group facilitation sessions, community events, or crisis response.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, Social Work, Social Welfare or closely related field

and

• Two (2) years of experience in domestic violence intervention, group facilitation or counseling, crisis intervention, or case management services

Other Requirements:

• Bilingual in Spanish and English. Candidates must be able to read, write, speak, and understand both languages sufficiently to perform duties including group facilitation in Spanish.
• Preferred: LSW, LCSW, LPC, LMFT, LAC, LCADC.
• Must successfully complete background checks as required by county and state regulations for positions serving vulnerable populations.
• Domestic violence/abuse intervention facilitator certification preferred (can be obtained within 6 months of hire).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Word, Outlook and Excel programs.
• Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
• Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey to perform essential duties of the position.

Salary: Minimum $55,000 / per annum, commensurate with experience.
