Senior Product Design & Manufacturing Engineer

Athens, GA

Behavioral Safety Products designs and manufactures ligature-resistant solutions to help create safer environments in behavioral healthcare settings.

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Product Design & Manufacturing Engineer to lead the design, development, and successful production of innovative products. If you’re passionate about solving engineering challenges and bringing ideas to life, we’d love to hear from you!

Qualifications:

  • Several years of experience designing physical products that have been successfully manufactured and sold.
  • Strong proficiency with CAD Software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Experience designing products using plastics, metals, and production assemblies.
  • Experience working directly with manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, injection molding, fabrication, and assembly.
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and project management skills.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Do:

Product Design & Development:

  • Design new products and improve existing products using SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Develop innovative engineering solutions that improve performance, manufacturability, safety, and cost.
  • Ensure products comply with applicable industry regulations and standards.
  • Transform concepts into production-ready designs through collaboration with manufacturing partners.

Manufacturing & Quality:

  • Create detailed product specifications and product documentation.
  • Review prototypes, first articles, and production samples to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Lead quality initiative and continuous improvement efforts with suppliers.
  • Analyze manufacturing issues and implement effective corrective actions.

Supplier & Vendor Management:

  • Identify, evaluate, and develop domestic and international manufacturing partners.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for suppliers throughout product development and production.
  • Resolve manufacturing, process, quality, and cost challenges.
  • Coordinate third-party product testing and ensure successful certification when required.

Patents & Intellectual Property:

  • Conduct patent research during product development.
  • Work with patent attorneys to support filings and documentation.
  • Monitor competitive products for potential intellectual property considerations.

Technical Support:

  • Provide technical expertise to internal teams and customers.
  • Troubleshoot field and production issues.
  • Investigate design and manufacturing failures to improve future products.
  • Support sales teams with technical presentations and product expertise at trade shows when needed.
