Bard High School Early College ManhattanAdmissions Support Assistant (short-term)Apply Here:https://apply.interfolio.com/102760

About the Bard Early Colleges

Bard Early Colleges (BECs) are founded on the belief that many high school–age students are eager and ready for the intellectual challenges of a college education. Bard Early Colleges act on this belief by providing younger scholars with a tuition-free, credit-bearing college course of study in the liberal arts and sciences following the 9th and 10th grades. Students are taught by college faculty and have the opportunity to earn up to 60 college credits and an associate in arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College, concurrently with a high school diploma. Bard Early Colleges begin preparing students for college work as early as the 9th grade and offer ongoing guidance and academic support.

Now in its third decade, the Bard Early College network serves over 3,300 students in campuses in The Bronx, Lower Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and Hudson, New York; Newark, New Jersey; New Orleans, Louisiana; Cleveland, Ohio; Washington, D.C.; and Baltimore, Maryland. Since 2003, Bard College has awarded more than 5,500 A.A. degrees to its early college students.

About Bard High School Early College Manhattan Campus

The Bard High School Early College Manhattan campus is a screened New York City public high school located on the Lower East Side. A unique partnership between Bard College and the NYC Department of Education (NYDOE), BHSEC seeks to provide a rigorous course of study that emphasizes thinking through writing, discussion, and inquiry. This alternative to the traditional high school is founded on the belief that many young people are ready and eager to do serious college work at age sixteen. Based on the premise that these young adults' ambition to learn must be taken seriously, BHSEC's four-year program enables highly motivated students to earn a New York State high school Regents diploma and a tuition-free Bard College associate's degree in four years.

Position Overview

We are looking for an Admissions Support Assistant to help with the student application process. The Assistants will work with the Bard High School Early College admissions staff to facilitate testing, grading, and interviewing of prospective students. We are seeking to fill an opening at our Manhattan campus, located on the Lower East Side.

The assistant will assist with the management of a busy admissions office, answering phones, assisting prospective families, and entering data on prospective students into the admissions database. The assistant will also be trained to grade applicant essays and conduct applicant interviews. This is a fantastic opportunity for an outgoing, detail-oriented, and well-organized individual with an interest in education and school administration to learn about a unique, progressive high school and to gain valuable office experience. This position would be ideal for a recent college graduate and/or someone with a flexible schedule. The position will be 35 hours a week (9-5 with a one hour lunch break each day). The assistant will also be expected to work on various weekend dates throughout the fall, or to stay late some weeknights. Any hours outside of 9-5 will be comped and the assistant will be able to take off the same number of hours in the days immediately following the extra hour (specific timing to be figured out in conversation with the Director of Admissions).

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and a resume.

Compensation: $17 per hour

Start Date: October 2026

Duration: October 2026 to January 2027 (this is the school year (SY) 26-27 admissions season)

Location: Bard High School Early College, 525 E Houston Street, New York, NY 10002

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate should thrive in a fast paced environment

  • The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and well-organized individual

  • This position is great for a college student (junior, senior, or graduate level) and/or someone with a flexible schedule and a strong interest in education.
