Job description

SUMMARY

Baker Electric is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Procurement Manager to help lead our procurement function as the company scales in revenue and continued strategic growth. As Baker’s procurement organization matures the Procurement Manager will play a pivotal role in the sourcing, purchasing, and timely delivery of materials, equipment, and services that power the successful execution of our electrical projects. Working closely with the Sr. Director of Procurement, this role manages day-to-day procurement operations, drives spend analytics and vendor performance, and champions standardized, transparent buying practices across all operating groups—embodying our One Baker approach and TRAC core values (Team Builders, Relentless Follow-Through, All-In, Care for Others).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Sourcing & Category Management: Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with company growth and profitability goals. Lead the negotiation and management of copper, conduit, and other commodity blanket agreements to ensure price stability, mitigate market risk, and optimize material costs on large-scale construction projects.
  • Buyout & CBOM Strategy: Drive Baker’s Construction Bill of Materials (CBOM) and buyout strategy across operating groups—partnering with the buying team to verify and challenge vendor pricing, capture bid-vs-committed savings, and identify high-value buyout opportunities on commodities such as copper.
  • Spend Analytics & Reporting: Analyze spend, bid-vs-committed material costs, and vendor performance; identify bid busts and cost-saving opportunities; and deliver clear, executive-ready cost reporting and KPIs to leadership.
  • Vendor Management & Partnerships: Maintain a robust vendor database and evaluate suppliers on quality, reliability, pricing, and responsiveness. Foster strong, accountable vendor partnerships, manage rebate programs, and continuously assess supplier capabilities to meet evolving project needs.
  • Procurement Technology: Champion enterprise-wide adoption of the procurement software platform and integrated tools (ERP, price leveling, bid leveling, and AI-enabled workflows). Conduct software audits for transparency, drive process standardization, and support continuous-improvement and feature-enhancement efforts.
  • Compliance & Supplier Diversity: Lead compliance tracking for DBE participation, certification renewals, and supplier diversity programs on government-funded work (e.g., Caltrans/Metro). Maintain accurate procurement records—POs, contracts, invoices, and documentation—and ensure adherence to all legal, contractual, and regulatory requirements and audit readiness.
  • Budget & Cost Control: Partner with project management and finance to build accurate procurement budgets, monitor expenses, and implement strategies that keep procurement costs within budgetary limits while protecting project margin.
  • Material Coordination & Field Support: Coordinate with project teams, warehouse/logistics, and prefab to determine material requirements and ensure timely delivery to project sites. Anticipate delays or shortages and implement contingency plans to avoid project disruption—maintaining a Field-First mindset.
  • Process Improvement: Streamline procurement procedures from requisition to delivery, applying Lean/continuous-improvement (PDCA) practices, standardized SOPs, and best practices that enhance efficiency, transparency, and the Procure-to-Pay (P2P) workflow.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, coach and develop the buying team (Senior Buyer, Buyers, Procurement Supervisor, and Procurement Coordinator), fostering a collaborative, accountable, results-driven culture. Lead weekly procurement meetings, support onboarding of office and field staff, and build internal career-development pathways.
  • Business Continuity: Act as a reliable backup to the Director of Procurement during their absence, maintaining continuity and efficiency in departmental operations.
  • Market & Industry Engagement: Stay current on industry trends, technology, and market conditions for electrical construction materials. Represent Baker Electric at conferences and industry events as a positive ambassador for the company—strengthening Baker's reputation and vendor relationships while identifying new suppliers, products, and innovation opportunities.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or 10+ years of relevant procurement experience. Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CSCP, CPSM) are a plus.
  • Proven experience as a Procurement Manager or in a similar procurement leadership role, preferably within the electrical or construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical construction materials, equipment, and services procurement, with the ability to assess quality, specifications, and project suitability.
  • Familiarity with California construction regulations and standards—including the California Electrical Code / Title 24 and NEC, OSHPD/HCAI healthcarefacility requirements, and public works obligations such as DIR registration, prevailing wage, and certified payroll (SB 854)—as well as governmentcontract compliance (e.g., Buy America/BABA, DBE participation) and residential Home Improvement Contract Act (HICA) requirements where applicable.
  • Excellent negotiation, contract management, and vendor evaluation skills, with demonstrated success driving cost savings and strategic sourcing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with proficiency in spend analytics, bid leveling, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Proficiency with procurement/ERP systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and reporting/BI tools; comfort adopting AI-enabled procurement workflows.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a track record of leading teams and delivering results in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across procurement, operations, preconstruction, warehouse, accounting, and field teams, as well as external stakeholders.
