Job description

The Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES School Communications Service is seeking a Video Production Technician to provide customized communications and public relations support to public school districts in the OHM BOCES region. Our award-winning team of professionals brings extensive professional experience to ensure our clients successfully inform and engage with their communities. We strive to be communication leaders for public education clients, advising school districts on creative, strategic, innovative and effective communication solutions and collaboratively implementing those plans.
Our Video Production Technician acts as a creative and technical advisor to OHM BOCES and participating school districts, holding start-to-finish responsibility for producing high-quality, informational video content. In this role, you will collaborate closely with clients and the internal School Communications team to plan, storyboard, script, shoot and edit videos that highlight school programs, events, and strategic priorities. This is a Civil Service position.
Responsibilities
  • Video Production Management: Hold start-to-finish responsibility for assisting BOCES and participating school districts in producing informational videos. Meet with clients and the PR team to determine the focus, length, content, and direction of each project.
  • Pre-Production Planning: Work with PR staff and requesting districts/departments to develop goals, choose direction, set tones and outline ideas. Assist in scripting, create detailed storyboards or outlines and secure photo releases, narration services, location releases and other related administrative requirements.
  • Production Operations: Schedule all taping sessions. Transport, set up and operate all production equipment, including digital video and still cameras, lighting systems, microphones, tripods and related audio/video gear.
  • Post-Production & Editing: Perform all editing and post-production work using Adobe, Animoto or other editing software. Work closely with the design team to maintain brand consistency and finalize videos for a variety of outputs and distributions.
  • Compliance & Accessibility: Ensure strict ADA compliance and copyright regulations for all video content, including 3rd-party audio and visual assets. Adhere to federal guidelines (including the Department of Justice's Title II rule enforcing WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
  • Annual & Recurring Programming: Lead the coordination, production, and execution of annual required videos, including Opening Day, Annual Meeting, BOCES End-of-Year Ceremonies and New CTE Teacher Tours.
  • Program Support & Broadcasts: Oversee video production for the Bridges Weekly Video Announcements Broadcast (BBN), including recording or editing pre-recorded video from the program, as requested.
  • Photography & Social Media: Serve as the first backup photographer for all BOCES and District events (excluding Whitesboro CSD and Utica CSD). Capture quick 30-60 second social media video clips while taking photos, verifying student photo releases are secured.
  • Digital Asset Management: Organize, archive, catalog, and maintain all video and audio assets to ensure long-term accessibility, preservation, and structured data retention.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and make minor repairs to cameras, lights, decks and related electronic equipment. Confer with the Supervisor of Communications and Printing Services on the lease or purchase of new equipment.
  • Professional Development: Research and stay current with technological advances, industry trends, and emerging digital video tools in the field

Education
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in video production, television production or a closely related field AND one (1) year of video or television production experience; OR
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's Degree as described above AND three (3) years of experience as listed above.
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND five (5) years of experience as described above.

Requirements
  • Possession of an appropriate level, valid Driver's License at the time of appointment, which must be maintained throughout employment to meet field work requirements across school districts in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles, practices, and equipment used in video production, lighting, audio recording, and non-linear editing software (e.g., Adobe Suite, Animoto).
  • Technical understanding of web accessibility standards, ADA video compliance guidelines (WCAG 2.1 Level AA) and copyright laws.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills to schedule shoots, meet tight deadlines and catalog digital assets.
  • Ability to acquire a working knowledge of school district operations and complex educational issues.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and comfortable working relationships with district administrators, staff, students and the communications team.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as work effectively in a highly collaborative team setting.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities, show initiative and bring energy and flexibility to a fast-paced environment.

Salary $39,582 - $42,975
