Job description

Job Summary

Prepares medications under the direction of a pharmacist and assists with related job duties.

General Accountabilities

Receives and verifies written prescriptions or refill requests for accuracy.

Mixes pharmaceutical preparations according to written prescriptions.

Maintains proper storage and ensures necessary security of drugs.

Establishes and maintains patient profiles.

Answers telephones to discuss or answer patient requests or questions.

Assists patients at the pharmacy by answering simple questions, locating items or referring them to the pharmacist for medication information.

Prices and then files prescriptions that have been filled.

Receives and stores incoming drug or other related pharmacy supplies.

Verifies invoices and physical quantities received of incoming items.

Monitors medications in the pharmaceutical inventory to keep in stock medications current and disposes of outdated medications. Works with buyer or purchasing agent to keep medications in stock to acceptable levels.

Job Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: 1-2 years of related experience or vocational training. Pharmacy Technician Certification is required.
