Job description

Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Entry Writer to support a high-volume customs broker executing ocean and air import operations. In this role, you'll prepare and submit customs entries, ensure compliance with import regulations, and maintain accurate records for international shipments. You'll help keep cargo moving by verifying documentation, monitoring compliance requirements, and resolving issues with carriers, brokers, and regulatory agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and transmit customs entries for ocean and air shipments in compliance with CBP regulations, reviewing entry data prior to submission and resolving discrepancies quickly
  • Review and validate commercial documents (invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, air waybills) and confirm HTS classifications
  • Handle FDA filings and other Partner/Other Government Agency (PGA/OGA) requirements, including EPA, TSCA, and ADD/CVD as applicable
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready entry files and respond to CBP requests or exams as needed
  • Support ongoing compliance with trade regulations, tariffs, and internal standards
  • Ensure ISFs are filed on time for all ocean shipments and confirm ISF bond coverage is on file
  • Track container and freight availability, confirm cargo release, and monitor Last Free Day (LFD) to avoid demurrage, detention, and storage charges
  • Coordinate with steamship lines, airlines, terminals, warehouses, and trucking partners to ensure timely cargo movement
  • Communicate directly with clients on shipment status, documentation issues, and clearance updates

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of customs brokerage or entry writing experience across ocean and/or air modes
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or a related field preferred
  • Working knowledge of HTS classification, valuation, and country-of-origin rules
  • Familiarity with ISF filing requirements and ocean import documentation
  • Experience with CargoWise or a similar customs/entry system a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) preferred, not required
  • Comfortable managing competing deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
