Job description

Kenner, LA: Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking Field Service Technicians for a confidential Maritime client. This position is open to experienced marine mechanics and technicians, as well as mechanically inclined individuals with transferable experience in areas such as pump mechanics, valve service, automotive repair, heavy equipment mechanics, diesel mechanics, rotating equipment, or other hands-on mechanical environments.

The ideal candidate may have experience working directly with marine vessels and systems, or may come from a different mechanical background with the aptitude and willingness to learn specialized marine equipment. Candidates should have a strong mechanical foundation, the ability to troubleshoot and work with complex equipment, and a desire to continue developing their technical skills.

The Marine Field Service Technician will organize, manage, and perform service jobs involving troubleshooting, maintenance, installation, and repair of vessel mechanical and control systems in both field and shop environments. This role includes inspections and overhauls of reduction gears, controllable pitch propellers, Azimuth drives, and their respective control systems. Strong attention to detail, communication skills, self-discipline, and a willingness to learn are essential for success in this position.

The position initially involves approximately 40–50% travel, with travel opportunities generally increasing as the technician gains experience and progresses with the company.

Essential Duties:

• Coordinate with the service office to plan and prepare job scope, including ordering parts, tools, consumables, and other required materials.

• Perform repairs to manufacturer specifications and accurately document all work performed, including detailed daily and final job progress reports.

• Provide excellent customer support through effective communication for troubleshooting and project-related needs via phone, email, and on-site.

• Assist with shop-based production, repairs, and overhauls when not traveling to client sites.

• Participate in the Service Department’s on-call schedule as required.

• Support the Service Manager by completing collateral duties as assigned.

• Maintain equipment and work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.

• Perform additional duties as needed to support business and client needs.

Requirements/Skills:

• Experience in marine mechanical service or another hands-on mechanical field, such as pump mechanics, valve service, automotive repair, heavy equipment, diesel mechanics, industrial maintenance, rotating equipment, manufacturing, or similar technical work. Strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn may be considered in place of direct marine experience.

• Ability to troubleshoot, repair, maintain, install, or work with complex mechanical equipment and systems.

• Prior experience or training in mechanical and/or control system troubleshooting is beneficial. Experience in a maritime environment is preferred but not required.

• Ability and willingness to learn specialized marine equipment and systems, including reduction gears, controllable pitch propellers, Azimuth drives, and associated control systems.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently or in small teams; must demonstrate attention to detail and consistent follow-through.

• Self-motivated and dependable, with the initiative and willingness to learn, grow, and take on new responsibilities.

• Proficient in MS Office for reporting and performance needs.

• Ability to travel on short notice, work extended periods in the field (including weekends and holidays), and work overtime as required.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a TWIC card and any additional clearances required by government or port authorities.

• Strong communication skills to effectively interface with customers and team members.

Physical Requirements:

• Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, kneel, crawl, stoop, and/or sit.

• Ability to work in confined spaces such as engine rooms for extended periods, often on moving or uneven surfaces.

• Ability to remain seated and stationary for long periods.

• Ability to lift 20–50 lbs. as needed.

• Must be physically able to board vessels and rigs in shipyards, at sea, and in various other settings.

• Exposure to intense heat, cold, dust, noise, and hazardous chemicals.

The position is initially roughly 40–50% travel, with travel opportunities generally increasing as the technician gains experience and progresses with the company.
