Trusted by leaders in emerging tech, finance, and consumer brands, we drive influence across all channels - from AI Search to The Wall Street Journal, Shopify to TikTok, Meta to Google.
Role summary
Avenue Z is looking for a sales-focused individual contributor to create new business and sell high-value media and marketing solutions to priority accounts.
This is a hands-on, full-cycle sales role for a first-hire builder who can identify target accounts, open doors, lead executive-level discovery, shape the right solution, and convert qualified opportunities into revenue. You will sell across Avenue Z's capabilities, including performance media, public relations, AI search optimization, creator marketing, and integrated programs tailored to each client's growth and reputation goals.
This is also a collaborative team-selling role. Because many opportunities will require integrated solutions, you will be expected to recognize when deeper expertise is needed, bring in the right Avenue Z subject matter experts, and align the team around a unified commercial story. The ability to sell with and through internal experts, rather than selling in isolation, is critical to success.
What this role owns
  • Build and manage a consistent pipeline of qualified net-new business opportunities across target sectors and accounts.
  • Own the front end of the sales cycle from prospecting and first contact through discovery, solution development, proposal, negotiation, and close.
  • Sell Avenue Z's media, marketing, and creator capabilities as business solutions tied to measurable growth and reputation outcomes.
  • Create and run a disciplined outbound motion across account research, direct outreach, introductions, meetings, follow-up, and conversion.
  • Lead consultative discovery conversations that uncover business priorities, media needs, growth challenges, buying process, and urgency.
  • Work closely with leadership and delivery teams to shape compelling pitches, scopes of work, proposals, and commercial strategies.
  • Maintain strong CRM hygiene, pipeline tracking, forecasting, and next-step discipline.
  • Represent the firm in high-value meetings, conferences, and selective industry events where real business can be generated.
  • Bring market feedback into Avenue Z's sales messaging, offer development, target-account strategy, and go-to-market priorities.

Core responsibilities
New business origination
  • Build a weekly cadence of prospecting, introductions, meetings, follow-up, and opportunity advancement against defined revenue goals.
  • Source opportunities through direct outreach, warm networks, referrals, inbound interest, and relevant industry relationships.
  • Identify high-potential brands and companies with clear needs across performance media, creator marketing, or integrated campaigns.
  • Research target accounts and create thoughtful outreach that connects Avenue Z's capabilities to the prospect's business priorities.
  • Partner with internal leaders to refine outreach strategy, meeting narratives, and conversion plans.

Consultative media sales
  • Lead discovery and executive conversations with confidence, curiosity, and strong commercial judgment.
  • Translate client goals into integrated media and marketing opportunities rather than selling disconnected services.
  • Position Avenue Z's capabilities clearly, including performance media, public relations, AI search optimization, creator marketing, and broader digital growth programs.
  • Build persuasive pitches and proposals that connect strategy, channel mix, expected impact, and investment.
  • Navigate objections, buying committees, procurement processes, and budget conversations while maintaining deal momentum.
  • Clearly communicate client needs, commercial context, and success criteria to internal strategy and delivery teams.

Deal advancement and closing
  • Move opportunities from initial interest to qualified pipeline, proposal, negotiation, and signed engagement.
  • Establish clear qualification standards, next steps, timelines, stakeholders, and close plans for every active opportunity.
  • Coordinate internal stakeholders around pitch preparation, capabilities positioning, pricing input, and proposal strategy.
  • Keep momentum across every live opportunity with timely follow-up and strong executive communication.
  • Surface pipeline risks, stalled deals, competitive dynamics, and market feedback quickly and clearly.
  • Ensure a clean handoff from closed business into contracting, onboarding, and delivery.

Market presence and intelligence
  • Represent Avenue Z externally with credibility, polish, and strong commercial instincts.
  • Attend high-value events and conferences selectively, turning participation into meetings, introductions, and qualified pipeline.
  • Build relationships with founders, CMOs, growth leaders, investors, and other referral sources that can lead to direct business.
  • Bring back intelligence on buyer needs, competitive positioning, media trends, and emerging opportunity areas.
  • Help leadership refine sales messaging and the go-to-market approach based on real signals from the field.

Ideal profile
  • 4+ years of new business, consultative sales, media sales, business development, or growth experience.
  • Proven ability to open doors, create pipeline, and close revenue through direct relationship-building and outbound activity.
  • Experience selling strategic, consultative, high-value services or integrated marketing solutions.
  • Demonstrated success leading executive discovery, shaping proposals, navigating objections, and advancing deals to close.
  • Strong understanding of how media and marketing investments connect to growth, reputation, customer acquisition, or business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify when specialized expertise is needed, engage subject matter experts, and sell as part of an integrated team.
  • Strong judgment on where to spend time, which opportunities to pursue, and when to disqualify.
  • Highly organized operator who can manage outreach, pipeline, forecasting, and follow-through without heavy infrastructure.
  • Comfortable building from scratch in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred experience
  • Experience in agency, consulting, marketing services, media, digital transformation, or adjacent advisory businesses.
  • Experience selling performance media, paid media, creator marketing, or integrated digital marketing programs.
  • Experience working with ecommerce, emerging technology, finance, or consumer brands.
  • Familiarity with the Shopify ecosystem and tools that support ecommerce growth.
  • Established network across brands, growth-stage companies, founders, CMOs, growth leaders, investors, or other senior buyers.
  • Familiarity with CRM management, pipeline reporting, forecasting, and outbound business-development systems.
  • Experience building a sales motion, territory, or target-account strategy from the ground up.
