Job description

Position Title: Instructional Assistant
Location: ACA
Reports To: Elementary Classroom Teacher and School Administration
Employment Type: Full-Time (School Year)

Position Summary

The Instructional Assistant supports the classroom teacher in providing a safe, engaging, and academically enriching learning environment for elementary students. This role assists with instructional activities, classroom management, student supervision, and preparation of learning materials while fostering students' academic, social, and emotional growth. The Instructional Assistant works collaboratively with teachers, staff, and families to support the mission and values of ACA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in implementing daily instructional lessons and activities.
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group academic support to students under the direction of the teacher.
  • Reinforce classroom expectations and positive behavior management strategies.
  • Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, field trips, and other assigned duties.
  • Prepare instructional materials, classroom displays, and learning centers.
  • Assist with grading, record keeping, and organization of classroom resources.
  • Support students with varying learning needs by providing accommodations and encouragement.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate observations to the classroom teacher.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming classroom environment.
  • Assist students with routines that promote independence and responsibility.
  • Collaborate professionally with teachers, administrators, specialists, and other staff members.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school matters.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or administration.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or college coursework in education preferred.
  • Previous experience working with elementary-aged children is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Basic proficiency with educational technology and common computer applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the school day.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to supervise students indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
