Landscape Architect Arterial | Montclair, NJ | Hybrid
Bringing Life to Streets and Public Spaces
Arterial is a respected boutique landscape architecture and urban design studio specializing in pedestrian-centric design of public spaces, streetscapes, greenways, and mixed-use development. We’re passionate about the places where people gather, move, and connect, and we bring that passion to every project we take on.
We’re a small, collaborative team where everyone plays an active role in shaping the work. Every day we’re changing the world that people live in, one street and public space at a time.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Landscape Architect with 3 to 5 years of experience to join our growing studio. This is not a siloed role. You will work across all phases of a project from concept through construction, collaborate directly with clients, and contribute to work that has real and visible impact on communities.
We love talking about streets, plazas, and the spaces between buildings. If that excites you too, we want to hear from you.
This is probably not the right fit for someone looking for a highly structured environment with narrowly defined responsibilities.
What You Will Do
- Contribute to landscape architecture and urban design projects across all phases including concept, schematic design, design development, and construction documents
- Develop drawings, renderings, and presentation materials using AutoCAD and Adobe Suite
- Build 3D models and visualizations using SketchUp and Lumion
- Meet directly with public and private clients and present ideas clearly and confidently
- Support contract document development including construction plans and details in CAD
- Develop illustrative plans, boards, booklets, and reports for client presentations
- Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and the broader team
- Take ownership of an in-office initiative such as graphics, CAD standards, or AI tools
- Actively participate in industry organizations and regional professional events as a representative of Arterial

- Licensure preferred, candidates actively working toward licensure and with completed exam sections are strongly encouraged to apply
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign required
- Working knowledge of SketchUp and Lumion, we use both daily and are happy to support your growth
- Experience with Complete Streets, bicycle and pedestrian planning, or street design a plus
- Experience developing construction documents and contract deliverables
- Strong client-facing communication skills and comfort presenting to stakeholders
- Working plant knowledge and familiarity with best practices in landscape architecture
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently while knowing when to ask for help
- Genuine passion for public space and urban design, not just as a job but as a calling
- Collaborative, low-ego approach, we do not need a superhero with a super ego
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Arterial does not provide visa sponsorship for this position
