Position Overview

The Director of Accounting will lead the day-to-day accounting function for a growing, inventory-driven organization. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for overseeing the monthly close process, financial reporting, general ledger activities, inventory accounting, internal controls and process improvement initiatives. The Director of Accounting will manage a small accounting team while partnering cross-functionally to enhance financial operations, support system implementations and build scalable accounting processes to support continued business growth.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end close process, financial statement preparation and management reporting.
  • Oversee the general ledger, account reconciliations, journal entries and balance sheet integrity.
  • Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, payroll and accruals.
  • Partner with operations to support inventory accounting, costing, reconciliations, physical inventory and inventory controls.
  • Supervise and mentor a small accounting team while remaining actively involved in day-to-day accounting activities.
  • Develop, document and improve accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Support ERP implementation, system enhancements, reporting improvements and process automation initiatives.
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax support and compliance activities with external partners.
  • Assist with acquisitions by integrating accounting processes, reporting and financial controls.


Qualifications

  • Eight or more years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience leading the monthly close process and improving accounting operations.
  • Hands-on leadership experience managing a small accounting team.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems.
  • Experience in manufacturing, distribution, wholesale, industrial or other inventory-focused businesses preferred.
  • Public accounting experience, ERP implementation experience, M&A integration exposure and CPA designation preferred.


Key Strengths

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP accounting and financial reporting.
  • Experience leading the month-end close process and owning the general ledger.
  • Leadership experience managing and developing accounting staff.
  • Background in inventory accounting within manufacturing, distribution, wholesale or other inventory-intensive environments.
  • ERP implementation, process improvement and advanced Excel skills.
