Description
Brazoria County Parks Department is growing and thriving in Southeast Texas and features a newly opened Park Headquarters and event space, 10 recreational park sites, one historic site, more than 20 boat ramp facilities, and approximately 14 miles of public beach along the Gulf of Mexico. The region also boasts diverse wildlife and landscapes such as Columbia Bottomland forests, rivers, bays and estuaries, and a dedicated, professional team of employees. The Parks Department hosts renowned special events and programs including Camp Mohawk for children during peak season.
Example of Duties
Basic Job Description:
While Brazoria County Parks are open year-round, the Parks experience peak visitation during warm weather and during summer months. The increased visitation creates the need for additional staffing to take on seasonal responsibilities and additional maintenance of the grounds and facilities. The successful candidate(s) for Temporary / Seasonal General Maintenance, Beach and Grounds Ranger will perform the following duties:
  • Daily Parks operations include trash pickup, maintenance, cleaning, mowing, and basic repairs of County Park facilities and grounds.
  • Seasonal maintenance and crowd induced cleanup especially on beaches and boat ramps.
  • May also work on new construction projects, cleaning restrooms, event spaces, and other park facilities, and various other duties as assigned.
  • Depending upon qualifications, duties may also include modest/basic repair / install of appliances, construction and/or remodeling, electrical or plumbing, work with potable water systems, wastewater systems, or other limited project repairs as needed.
  • Travel to various park locations within the County is required.
  • This position will be working alongside park staff from maintenance crews, park sites, and Parks Dept. HQ.
  • Other duties may also be assigned by Parks Dept. senior staff or assigned supervisor

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
Must be able to represent the department to both external and internal customers with a professional and friendly demeanor.
  • Applicants must be a minimum 16 years of age, enrolled in high school, or obtained a diploma or G.E.D.; previous park, maintenance, public works, construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, lawn care or related experience desired.
  • Employee must be willing to work non-traditional schedule such as early mornings, weekends, holidays, up to four 10-hour days as a weekly work schedule, help with county Park special events and at other times if needed, and comply with all Brazoria County policies such as a uniform dress code, background check and drug screening.
  • Employees must be motivated, punctual and reliable, willing to learn and work in a team environment, as a member of a maintenance crew or Park Ranger team.
  • Employees must demonstrate proactivity and self-management skills.
  • Employees must demonstrate high accountability for their work production.
  • Employees must maintain a professional and task-oriented demeanor during all working hours.
  • Employees must have a valid Texas driver's license and provide transportation to Parks Dept. HQ in Angleton to report for daily work assignments.
  • Parks Department uniforms (shirts and cap) will be provided.

Supplemental Information
Salary range: This position is a non-supervisory, temporary/seasonal position. The position does not offer a benefits package, paid time off, or insurance options. Salary range $15-$20 per hour depending upon qualifications and experience. Employees will be scheduled for 25 - 40 hours per week, depending on demands of the parks. Dates of employment will be during peak season from May 16, 2026, until September 18, 2026. Term of employment during this period is for a maximum of 1,500 hours collectively.
Supervisor: Parks Temporary positions report to the Parks Dept Lead Maintenance Foreman or other supervisor as assigned.
