Job description

Position Summary
Andy Frain Services, Inc. seeks a highly qualified professional to serve as an K9 Detection Handler in the Atlanta, Georgia area. This position supports a specialized detection program focused on threat detection and requires a disciplined, mission-ready handler who can maintain operational certifications, safeguard and train an assigned canine, support designated client sites, and respond to incidents, demonstrations, and emergency or standby assignments as operational needs require. The ideal candidate is a retired law enforcement canine handler, prior military canine handler, or similarly experienced professional with a strong work ethic, sound judgment, and a demonstrated commitment to canine care and operational readiness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complete and maintain all certifications, qualifications, licensing, and training required for the Andy Frain Services Person-Borne Gun Detection program and for armed assignment at the designated work location.
  • Certify with the assigned canine before operational deployment and maintain all annual certifications, required recertifications, proficiency standards, and program readiness benchmarks thereafter.
  • Maintain full responsibility for the assigned canine's health, welfare, conditioning, housing, grooming, feeding, medical follow-up, training progress, and general care in accordance with company policy and program standards.
  • Conduct searches only with the assigned canine, only at Andy Frain Services-designated sites, and only as directed by Andy Frain management or other authorized direction.
  • Provide support and assistance, as directed, to Andy Frain Services, Inc. management, designated authorized client contacts, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely canine utilization records, training documentation, certifications, deployment records, and any other required program documentation.
  • Maintain all canine-related equipment, duty gear, assigned firearms, and other issued assets in serviceable condition and in accordance with company policy.
  • Operate and maintain the company-assigned vehicle in compliance with Andy Frain fleet management policies, safe driving requirements, and all applicable laws.
  • Wear all prescribed duty gear while on duty, including protective vest, duty belt, and any other equipment required for the assignment.
  • Remain available for client demonstrations, incident response, emergency response duty, standby assignments, and adjusted schedules that may include weekends, holidays, nights, and overnights.
Maintenance Training and Operational Readiness
  • Conduct routine maintenance training with the assigned canine in accordance with program standards and the direction of the Canine Coordinator / Program Manager.
  • Complete scheduled proficiency training intended to sustain and improve detection capability, obedience, control, neutrality, environmental stability, and operational performance under distraction.
  • Participate in scenario-based, site-based, and environmental exposure training to ensure reliable performance at designated sites and during client demonstrations.
  • Maintain detailed training records documenting date, location, duration, objectives, aids used when applicable, observed outcomes or alerts, corrective actions, and follow-up plans.
  • Participate in remedial training, coaching, and performance reviews if proficiency standards are not met or if performance trends indicate the need for corrective action.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Single-purpose canine handler certification, or the ability to obtain the certification before commencing work.
  • Dual-purpose canine handler certification, or the ability to obtain the certification before commencing work.
  • At least three (3) years of law enforcement canine handling experience, at least three (3) years of military canine handling experience, or similarly documented substantially comparable experience.
  • Willingness to remain with the program for a minimum of three (3) years.
  • Strong desire to work with canines and willingness to train, care for, and maintain the assigned working canine to program standards.
  • Ability to successfully complete a ninety (90) day probationary period.
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving record for the preceding three (3) years, and successful completion of Andy Frain Safe Drivers' Instruction.
  • Ability to satisfy all firearms training, department qualification, company assessment, licensing, and jurisdictional requirements necessary to perform armed work.
