Job description

Staff Power Electronics Engineer

Ampere Recruitment is working with a fast-growing company that designs power electronics technology for implantable devices. Their platform is already used in 50+ device types worldwide, and they're hiring a Staff Power Electronics Engineer to join their team.

The Role

You'll own high-stakes electrical engineering challenges across power electronics and analog circuit design, taking systems from concept through working hardware. This covers schematic capture, PCB layout, and lab-based debugging to ensure platforms are reliable, manufacturable, and customer-ready.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Own power electronics, battery management, and analog circuit risks through to closure
  • Design and release circuits end-to-end in Altium (schematic capture, PCB layout)
  • Prototype, test, and debug hardware in the lab
  • Diagnose failure modes in power, analog, and mixed-signal circuits and drive root-cause fixes
  • Take hardware through key milestones — schematic release, layout, bring-up, verification, shipping
  • Act as a technical SME supporting the test engineering team
  • Collaborate across systems, electromagnetics, mechanical, firmware, and test disciplines
  • Improve EE workflows, documentation, and engineering rigour

What You'll Need

  • Strong background in power electronics and analog circuit design
  • Experience designing and validating circuits/power converters for regulated, high-reliability products
  • Proficient in Altium for schematic capture, PCB layout, and release
  • Hands-on lab experience with prototyping, bring-up, debugging, and verification
  • Good understanding of passives and device-level modelling (inductors, transformers, semiconductors)
  • Methodical, detail-oriented approach and strong cross-functional communication

Nice to Have

  • Experience with active implantable medical devices
  • High-frequency power electronics or resonant power systems
  • Wireless power transfer / electromagnetic design exposure
  • Familiarity with IEC 60601 or ISO 14708
