Job description

Ames Construction has been building America for more than 60 years, creating critical infrastructure such as highways, bridges, mines, dams, rail, and more. The Mechanical Superintendent will oversee all mechanical scopes of work, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Responsibilities
  • Field Supervision & Execution – Direct and oversee daily mechanical field operations, coordinate sequencing of mechanical systems with other trades, enforce compliance with drawings and specifications, manage material deliveries and equipment logistics.
  • Safety & Quality Champion – Promote a safety‑first culture, conduct daily huddles, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses, perform quality inspections, verify installations against code and contract requirements, and manage punch‑list resolution.
  • Scheduling & Planning – Develop and maintain short‑interval (look‑ahead) schedules for mechanical scopes, identify constraints, communicate solutions, and track production rates versus budget.
  • Coordination & Communication – Collaborate with the Project Manager, Superintendents, engineers, and subcontractors to resolve field conflicts and RFIs, participate in BIM/clash‑detection meetings, and document daily field activities.
  • Team Leadership – Supervise, mentor, and develop field crews, foremen, and apprentices; manage crew assignments, workforce planning, and performance, fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/trade certification or associate degree preferred.
  • Seven or more years of mechanical construction experience, including at least three years in a supervisory role.
  • Proven experience across mechanical disciplines (piping, HVAC, plumbing, and/or process/industrial systems).
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, installation methods, and applicable building/mechanical codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Proficiency with scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) and field/project management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Solid understanding of OSHA standards and construction safety practices; OSHA 30‑Hour Construction certification.
  • Compliance with CMMC, FAR, and Accounting Standards in all Federal efforts.
Working Conditions

Location – Farmington, New Mexico (subsequent projects will be nationally based). Travel – expected to travel to project locations and regional offices. Office – extensive sitting at desk and computer; some standing, bending, stooping, and reaching required; ability to lift 5–20 pounds occasionally. Construction Site – physical ability to stand, walk, crawl, bend, reach, and climb; exposure to high noise levels.
