Job Summary

The Drill Technician plays a versatile role performing both drilling and Construction Materials Testing (CMT) operations. This position supports geotechnical investigations by assisting in drilling activities and construction projects by conducting materials testing. The successful candidate will contribute to the success of projects in both drilling and CMT operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with Drillers or Lead Drillers to set up and operate drilling equipment.
  • Support execution of geotechnical investigations and soil sampling.
  • Review project instructions and ensure all materials and supplies are available.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements for sealing boreholes.
  • Perform field and laboratory testing of concrete, soils, bituminous, or masonry products.
  • Conduct quality assurance services on construction sites.
  • Perform routine maintenance on drilling and CMT equipment.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks and report issues promptly.
  • Assist in collection, labeling, and transport of soil and rock samples.
  • Prepare written field logs of borings and soil classifications.
  • Assist in site preparation activities and ensure access for drilling equipment.
  • Record drilling and CMT data accurately and maintain detailed field information.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and participate in safety meetings.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaborate with team members.

Required Qualifications and Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Insurable driving record and ability to obtain a medical card.
  • Class D Driver’s License.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% - 80% of work time including overnight travel.

Preferred Skills

  • Class A or B Driver’s License.
  • Previous experience as a CMT Technician, Drill Assistant, or similar role.

Pay Transparency

Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $21.00 to $26.00 an hour based on skill set and experience. AET offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health benefits, insurance, Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), long-term savings, paid time off, and professional development opportunities. The selected candidate must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Work Environment

This job primarily operates outdoors in all seasons and varying conditions. Secondary operations occur in an office environment using standard office equipment.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently lift 30–60 lbs; occasionally lift 60–100 lbs.
  • Carry 30–60 lbs for 10–30 feet; occasionally carry 60–100 lbs.
  • Stand and move 80% of the day, often on uneven surfaces.
  • Frequent bending and stooping.
  • Ability to work at hazardous waste sites with PPE.
