At Alpha, our scientists and engineers are the heart of the business and have been since we invented the rubber rheometer industry over 60 years ago. The company is seeking an Applications Engineer to help current and prospective customers to solve problems using our products.

The Applications Engineer plays a critical role in supporting Alpha's growth. This person unlocks the potential of our products to address our customers' challenges. The ideal candidate will enjoy a fast-paced work environment with frequent customer touchpoints. The Applications engineer will manage a wide range of projects including supporting new product introduction, resolving major customer issues, creating technical marketing content, and delivering technical presentations at major conferences. Use expert knowledge and understanding of product lines to translate customer needs into product selection

Develop new or modified test methods to attract new customers or break into new markets

Create product application presentations, white papers, and technical marketing content

Conduct tests in a laboratory environment to demonstrate product capabilities or generate experimental results

Provide technical consulting and product applications training to the customer and internal departments

Assist Engineering in the analysis of customer product failures, the generation of the related failure reports and communication of failure analysis and recommendations to the customer

Bachelor's degree in science and engineering required - master's degree or PhD in polymer science, polymer engineering, rubber technology, or polymer rheology strongly preferred

2 years' experience in polymer rheology are required

2 years' hands-on experience operating rheometers is required. Familiarity with rubber testing equipment is a plus

Experience in rubber or composite manufacturing, combined with strong hands-on data analysis skills, is highly preferred

Must be fluent in English and Japanese. Fluency in other languages is a plus

Demonstrated success in managing multiple complex projects, concurrently

Demonstrated success in designing, analyzing, and presenting experimental results

Strong structured problem-solving experience

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and papers

Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences both internally and externally through written reports, lectures, and technical presentations

Remote role

Travel required up to 30% domestic and international - must have and maintain a valid passport

Participation in video and teleconferences that may occur earlier or later than normal working hours

A competitive compensation package will be designed that includes base salary and a bonus opportunity

Good level of fitness is required. This position requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and reaching with hands and arms. Good ability to climb and/or balance. There is often lifting and carrying of materials up to 25 pounds. Good close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). Average hearing is sufficient.

The individual will be working in a non-smoking administrative office environment with moderate PC work, light to moderate communication via phones and multiple interruptions. Routine visits to the production area are required. Noise level encountered will vary from minimum to heavy machining. There may be some exposure to chemicals and fumes.
