Company Description Alliance Tutoring provides comprehensive support for college and private school applicants, including test preparation, application essay guidance, interview coaching, and related application services. Alliance Tutoring is known for working with highly qualified tutors who have strong academic backgrounds and extensive teaching and mentoring experience. Tutors mentor, coach, and support teens and young adults through key academic and personal transitions, aiming to build confidence, skills, and long-term success.


Role Description This is an on-site, contract Private Tutor role based in Greenwich, CT. The Private Tutor will work with middle school, high school, and college-age learners in one-on-one and small-group settings to support academic coursework, test preparation, and/or application essay writing. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning individualized lessons, delivering engaging instructional sessions, monitoring student progress, and providing regular feedback to learners and families. The tutor will also help students build study skills, time management strategies, and self-advocacy, while maintaining detailed records of sessions and outcomes. Collaboration with Alliance Tutoring leadership to align on goals, approaches, and student support plans is expected.

Qualifications

  • Strong subject-matter expertise in core academic areas (e.g., English, mathematics, science, history) and/or familiarity with standardized test formats (e.g., SAT, ACT, SSAT, AP).
  • Demonstrated skills in academic coaching, including study skills development, organization, time management, and test-taking strategies.
  • Experience supporting application processes, including essay brainstorming and editing, interview preparation, and guidance on college or private school admissions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with teens and young adults and collaborate effectively with families.
  • Proven ability to design individualized lesson plans, differentiate instruction, and adapt teaching methods to diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, counseling, or a relevant academic field; teaching or tutoring experience strongly preferred.
  • Professionalism, reliability, and strong organizational skills, including punctuality, record keeping, and consistent follow-through.
