The Allen County Public Library is looking for a Part-Time Branch Assistant to join our Woodburn Branch team.Woodburn is a small, welcoming community just east of Fort Wayne, close to the Ohio state line. Our Woodburn Branch has a real hometown feel, and the library is a place where people come to see familiar faces, find something new to read, get help with a resource, or simply connect with their community.In this role, you'll help make sure patrons have a positive experience every time they visit. You'll assist with checking materials in and out, answering questions, helping with library cards and requests, and sharing information about library programs and services. Your responsibilities will include:Checking library materials in and out and helping patrons locate materialsAssisting patrons with placing and picking up requestsHelping people apply for library cards or replace lost cardsAnswering questions about library programs, services, policies, and facilitiesProviding assistance in person, over the phone, and by emailProcessing fees and payments when neededIdentifying returned materials that need additional attentionUsing library computers, technology, and automated systemsHelping keep the branch welcoming, organized, and ready for the communityEvery day is a little different. You may help someone find a book, show a patron how to use a computer, answer a question about an upcoming program, or help a longtime patron with something they've done a hundred times before. It's a job where being friendly, patient, and willing to help goes a long way.What We're Looking ForWe're looking for someone who enjoys working with people and takes pride in providing good customer service. You should be comfortable using computers and other technology and be able to learn and use library systems and standard office equipment.You should also be able to:Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writingFollow instructions and established proceduresMaintain confidentiality when handling patron informationKeep accurate recordsUse good judgment and discretion when working with the publicWork well with coworkers and contribute to a positive team environmentWork comfortably with people of different ages, backgrounds, and experiencesLibrary experience is helpful, but we're also interested in people who have strong customer service skills and a genuine interest in helping others.ScheduleThis position will work 28 hours per week.
