Job description

Description Under general supervision, this position assists with the daily operations, monitoring, security, cleanliness, and public use of Aiken County Parks & Recreation facilities, parks, athletic complexes, and special events. Duties include assisting with recreation programs and events, monitoring rentals and activities, enforcing park rules and policies, locking and securing facilities, litter removal, and providing customer service to park patrons. Examples of Duties MAJOR DUTIES Supervises and monitors parks, athletic facilities, playgrounds, and special events to help ensure safe and orderly public use.

Assists with youth and adult athletic programs, games, tournaments, rentals, and special events. Opens, locks, and secures park facilities, restrooms, gates, buildings, and athletic areas according to departmental schedules and procedures. Conducts routine park and facility inspections to identify maintenance issues, safety concerns, vandalism, or rule violations.

Enforces Park rules, facility policies, and operational procedures in a professional and courteous manner. Assists with crowd management and monitoring of participants, spectators, vendors, and rental groups during events and activities. Picks up trash and debris throughout parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, parking lots, shelters, and public areas.

Performs basic housekeeping and cleanliness duties for facilities and park amenities as needed. Assists with set-up and breakdown of fields, equipment, tables, chairs, signage, and event materials. Monitors facility rentals and communicates with renters to ensure compliance with park policies and rental agreements.

Provides customer service and responds to questions, complaints, and requests from the public. Reports accidents, incidents, damages, unsafe conditions, maintenance concerns, and rule violations to supervisors. Assists with concession operations, scorekeeping, officiating, or event support duties as assigned.

Maintains effective working relationships with County staff, volunteers, coaches, participants, and the general public. Abides by all County and departmental safety policies and procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is typically performed outdoors and indoors and may involve standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying equipment or supplies.

The employee may occasionally lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work may occur during evenings, weekends, holidays, and in varying weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to heat, cold, rain, noise, dust, and large crowds during events.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION Knowledge of basic customer service principles. Ability to enforce rules and policies professionally and consistently. Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Skill in interpersonal communication and conflict resolution. Ability to monitor facilities and recognize safety concerns. Ability to read schedules, reports, and operational instructions.

Ability to maintain professionalism during busy events or difficult situations. Typical Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with high school completion or equivalent. Ability to communicate effectively with the public and coworkers.

Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to recreation facilities, event operations, customer service, or park operations preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license or have reliable transportation.
