Job Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist assesses and treats patients ranging from infants to geriatric populations with speech, language, and/or oral-pharyngeal sensory-motor disorders. The role follows established professional standards, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies. The SLP also supports daily operations of speech-language pathology services and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care.


Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat speech, language, and swallowing disorders across all age groups (inpatient and outpatient settings).
  • Develop, implement, and modify individualized treatment plans based on patient needs.
  • Travel to various service locations as required.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation including:
    • Evaluations
    • Progress notes
    • Discharge summaries
    • Reports for physicians, payers, and other stakeholders
  • Handle billing processes including coding, charge entry, and pre-authorizations.
  • Coordinate with insurance/reimbursement sources to ensure proper coverage.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans, home programs, and progress.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, dieticians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in program development, policy creation, and process improvements.
  • Assist in daily department operations such as scheduling, productivity tracking, and equipment management.
  • Supervise and mentor students, volunteers, and new staff (preceptor role).
  • Participate in committees, surveys, and administrative initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety standards, and confidentiality policies.

Required Skills
  • Proficiency in using:
    • Audiometers
    • Formal assessment tools
    • Recording devices (tape recorders, dictaphones)
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including:
    • Operating a computer and peripherals
    • Using keyboard and mouse
    • Opening/closing applications
    • Basic printer operations

Education & Certifications
  • Required:
    • Valid State License (Kentucky)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (required after hire)
  • Preferred:
    • ASHA Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP)
