Position Summary:
Under direct supervision, the technician will perform tasks involving physical labor for large and small deactivation, decommissioning, demolition, environmental remediation and/or construction projects, to include all phases of the project. Typically, the Waste Operations group prepares, filling, loading, and unloading of waste containers. May involve other project activities as directed by the supervisor to include fueling and operation of hand and power tools and other light powered equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Load, unload, and identify materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
  • Provide assistance to waste personnel preparing and loading waste containers.
  • Fuel heavy equipment.
  • Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities.
  • Perform equipment inspections and perform minor maintenance at the direction of the Superintendent.
  • Control traffic and serve as a spotter for heavy equipment in and around the work area.
  • Assist with loading and securement of waste containers.
  • Clean and prepare remediation sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Identify, pack, and transport hazardous and/or radioactive materials.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.

Physical Demands:
  • Must possess strength, stamina and mobility to perform heavy physical work outdoors in all weather conditions and with exposure to potentially hazardous
  • Use varied hand and power tools and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.

Work Environment:
  • This role can be on a hybrid schedule. Travel will be required.
  • This position requires regularly working in outside weather conditions. Regularly work near moving mechanical parts and frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration.
  • Occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require hearing protection.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check which includes 7-year employment verification, Department of Motor Vehicles record search, criminal record search.
  • Ability to pass HAZWOPER physical and wear a respirator as required for
  • Must be available for short-to-long-term assignments that will require overnight travel. Per diem and expenses will be provided.

Qualifications:
  • High School or GED is required at the very minimum.
  • 1-5 years of directly related construction experience; or an equivalent combination of education, including apprenticeship program or vocational/technical school, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed below.
  • Prior experience working on government installation, base, or facility preferred.
  • CPR & First Aid training is a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand measuring tools and devices, warning signs and labels on a construction site.
  • Ability to interpret plans, drawings, and written instructions and specifications.

$31.47/hour
