POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Learning Design & Content Strategy plays a key role in shaping the future of learning and professional development at AOTA. Reporting to the Vice President, Education & Professional Development, this position leads the design and evolution of AOTA's approach to instructional design, content strategy, learner engagement, and educational product innovation.


Working at the intersection of learning science, adult education, and emerging technologies, the

Director partners with subject matter experts, volunteer leaders, and cross-functional teams to create engaging, evidence-based learning experiences that support occupational therapy professionals throughout their careers. This role influences how knowledge is developed, delivered, and measured, ensuring AOTA's educational offerings remain learner-centered, relevant, and responsive to the evolving needs of the profession.

Location: Remote (U.S.) with occasional travel


WHAT YOU'LL DO

Lead Learning Strategy & Innovation

  • Shape AOTA's learning architecture and content development framework to deliver scalable, high-impact educational experiences.
  • Identify new opportunities for educational products, content offerings, and learner engagement.
  • Drive continuous improvement through learner feedback, analytics, and industry trends.

Design Exceptional Learning Experiences

  • Apply evidence-based instructional design principles to create engaging and effective learning solutions.
  • Partner with subject matter experts to transform complex content into learner-centered experiences.
  • Develop learning pathways, assessments, and supporting resources that strengthen professional competency.

Champion Technology & AI-Enabled Learning

  • Evaluate and implement innovative approaches to content delivery and learner engagement.
  • Leverage AI-enabled tools, automation, and emerging technologies to improve content development and learning experiences.
  • Support and optimize digital learning platforms and learning technologies.

Collaborate Across the Organization

  • Partner with teams across Education, Practice, Membership, Communications, and Business Development to support strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on instructional design, learning strategy, and educational effectiveness.
  • Lead multiple projects while influencing stakeholders and driving results.


WHAT YOU BRING

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in instructional design, learning experience design, continuing education, professional development, or related fields.
  • Experience designing learning solutions for adult learners in healthcare, associations, higher education, nonprofit, or similar environments.
  • Expertise in instructional design methodologies, adult learning theory, and assessment strategies.
  • Experience with LMS platforms, eLearning authoring tools, learning analytics, and emerging technologies.
  • Strong project management, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Passion for innovation, learner-centered design, and continuous improvement.

PREFERRED

  • CPTD, CPLP, ATD certification, or related credentials.
  • Experience with accessibility standards and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Experience supporting professional certification, competency-based education, micro-credentialing, or continuing professional development programs.
