Job description

Internal Medicine Physician — Principal Investigator (Training Provided)

Alliance Clinical Network — Phoenix, AZ | Full - Time or Part-Time | 1099 Independent Contractor

About Alliance Clinical Network

At Alliance Clinical Network, we advance medical innovation through high-quality, patient-centered clinical research. Our culture values compassion, integrity, and operational excellence—so you can focus on great medicine at a sustainable pace.

Role Summary

We’re seeking an Internal Medicine physician (MD/DO) to serve as a Principal Investigator (PI) at our Phoenix research site. This position is ideal for a physician seeking a slower pace of work and very flexible, part-time hours (approximately 5–20 hours/week; typically 10–20 hours/week depending on study needs). Comprehensive PI onboarding and ongoing support are provided. You’ll provide medical oversight for clinical trials, ensure participant safety, and help generate high-quality data—without the heavy demands of a traditional clinic schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the study physician for assigned trials; ensure participant safety and ethical conduct.
  • Review and confirm participant eligibility; oversee screening outcomes, AEs/SAEs, and retention trends.
  • Perform/oversee study-specific medical assessments (histories/physicals, concomitant meds, endpoint review).
  • Provide medical oversight to site staff (Sub-Investigators, CRCs, RNs, lab staff); be available for consults and safety questions.
  • Collaborate with IRBs, sponsors, and CROs; join SIVs, monitoring visits, and close-out activities as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with protocols, site SOPs, ICH-GCP, FDA/21 CFR, and Arizona state requirements.
  • Review clinical data (labs, ECGs, vitals) and support timely safety reporting and documentation.
  • Contribute to high-quality source documentation, query resolution, and continuous improvement of site processes.

Why This Role Fits a Slower Pace

  • Predictable scheduling anchored to study visit calendars (no overnight call; rare urgent escalations).
  • Focused patient interactions with pre-screened volunteers and comprehensive study protocols.
  • Dedicated research team handles day-to-day coordination; you provide clinical oversight and judgment.
  • Flexible hours—work blocks can often be scheduled around your availability.

Training & Support

  • Structured PI onboarding (GCP/ICH training, protocol-specific training, mentorship from experienced PIs).
  • Ongoing support from seasoned clinical operations, regulatory, and QA teams.
  • Clear SOPs, templates, and documentation workflows to simplify your transition into research.

Qualifications — Required

  • MD or DO (Internal Medicine).
  • Active, unrestricted Arizona medical license.
  • Interest in clinical research and comfort reviewing structured clinical data.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and confidentiality practices (HIPAA/PHI).

Qualifications — Preferred

  • Prior experience as a PI or Sub-Investigator (not required—training provided for the right candidate).
  • Familiarity with ICH-GCP and FDA regulations (21 CFR Parts 50, 54, 56, 312, 812).
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine; DEA registration if required by specific protocols.

Engagement Terms & Compensation (1099)

  • Type: 1099 Independent Contractor (not an employee).
  • Compensation — Block of Hours (Retainer): Monthly retainer tied to a block of hours billed at $125/hour.
  • Retainer Tiers: $5,000/month, $10,000/month, or $15,000/month; starting retainer is $5,000/month during the training phase.
  • Rate Basis: Retainer is calculated at $125/hour; any hours in excess of the selected monthly block are billable at $125/hour with prior approval.
  • Bonus Opportunity: Up to $100,000 per year based on meeting quality standards and revenue targets for the site location (metrics and eligibility defined in the contractor agreement/addendum).
  • Invoicing: Contractor submits invoices for approved hours and applicable retainer per agreed cadence.
  • Professional Requirements: Maintain active Arizona license, required trainings (e.g., GCP), and professional liability coverage.

Location

On-site at Phoenix, AZ (some remote chart review/sponsor calls as studies permit).
