Job description

About the Role:

The Mechanic role is critical in ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of diesel trucks and related heavy machinery. This position involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining complex diesel engines, braking systems, fuel systems, and hydraulic components to minimize downtime and extend vehicle lifespan. The successful candidate will work closely with a team to troubleshoot mechanical issues, replace worn parts such as gaskets and alternators, and perform routine inspections to prevent future failures. Attention to detail and adherence to safety standards are paramount to protect both the equipment and personnel. Ultimately, this role supports operational efficiency by keeping the fleet in excellent working condition through expert mechanical skills and proactive maintenance strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience as a diesel mechanic or similar role working with diesel trucks and heavy machinery.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, braking systems, fuel systems, and hydraulics.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification from a recognized automotive or diesel mechanic program (e.g., ASE certification).
  • Experience working with advanced diagnostic equipment and computerized engine controls.
  • Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations related to diesel engine maintenance.
  • Previous experience in a fleet maintenance environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, including fuel systems and braking systems.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair hydraulic systems to ensure proper functionality and safety.
  • Replace and service components such as gaskets, alternators, and brake parts to maintain vehicle integrity.
  • Conduct routine maintenance checks and preventive servicing to reduce breakdowns and extend equipment life.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and maintenance schedules.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols and regulatory compliance during all repair and maintenance activities.

Skills:

The required skills such as expertise in brakes, diesel engines, and fuel systems are applied daily to diagnose and repair mechanical failures efficiently, ensuring vehicles operate safely and reliably. Knowledge of hydraulics and braking systems is essential for maintaining critical vehicle functions and preventing accidents. Skills in handling gaskets and alternators are used to replace worn or damaged parts, thereby improving engine performance and electrical system reliability. Preferred skills like advanced diagnostic techniques and familiarity with computerized controls enhance the mechanic’s ability to quickly identify issues and implement precise repairs. Together, these skills enable the mechanic to maintain a high standard of vehicle readiness and contribute to overall operational success.
