Job Summary:

Conducts diagnostic ultrasound imaging studies.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

Position Accountabilities and Performance Criteria (Percent of Time)

Essential Functions: Below are the key responsibilities and performance criteria:

  • Ultrasound Procedures: Conducts ultrasound examinations following established departmental protocols. 60-75%
    • Executes ultrasound procedures in line with departmental guidelines.
    • Effectively communicates and explains the examination process to patients and their families to ensure understanding and consent.
    • Evaluates the patient's medical, cardiac, or vascular status by obtaining a history prior to the exam.
    • Compiles patient information and enters it into the current PACS System or Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
    • Archives all imaging studies for review and interpretation by the Medical Director or designated personnel.
  • Patient Billing: Ensures accurate and timely billing procedures. 5%
    • Records charges daily for procedures performed, maintaining a maximum of one error per week.
    • Generates reports from PAC, Epic, and On Demand, verifying the correct account number and procedures charged.
  • Department Support: Aids in achieving departmental goals and objectives, including the development of new programs. 5%
    • Contributes to the creation of new diagnostic testing procedures.
    • Educates residents and other medical or technical staff on technical aspects, indications, and limitations.
    • Engages in professional development through educational programs, workshops, and current literature.
    • Participates in research studies requiring departmental services.
  • Safety/Infection Control: Adheres to safety and infection control policies. 3-5%
    • Practices universal precautions and disposes of hazardous waste according to established guidelines.
    • Maintains a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
    • Reports risk management concerns and completes all mandatory annual training.
  • Service Excellence: Provides high-quality care in a respectful manner. 2-5%
    • Demonstrates care and courtesy to all patients, families, and staff.
    • Communicates effectively while maintaining confidentiality.
    • Minimizes overtime and manages resources efficiently.

Job Specifications

Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited AS program in Medical Sonography or scheduled to graduate from an approved BS program with RDMS(AS) certification.

Minimum Experience: 2-5 years in abdominal, musculoskeletal, breast, and obstetrics/gynecology preferred.

Required Certifications: BLS upon hire, RDMS(AB) within 12 months of hire, plus one additional certification.

Skills:

  • Administrative: Compiling statistics, managing paperwork for Medical Records, and proficient computer skills.
  • Equipment: Proficient in various ultrasound and Doppler equipment, EMR systems, and standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
