About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Surgical Services to lead our perioperative team in Missoula, Montana. In this senior leadership role, you will have full accountability for the strategic direction, operational performance, and clinical quality of the surgical services department. You will lead a dedicated team of nursing and support professionals, foster a culture of safety and excellence, and serve as a key member of the hospital's nursing leadership team.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a results-driven nurse leader who is passionate about surgical care, skilled at building high-performing teams, and ready to make a meaningful impact in a community-focused healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for all surgical services, including the operating room, pre-operative, and post-anaesthesia care units.
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, budgeting, and resource management to ensure efficient and safe department operations.
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives, monitor clinical outcomes, and ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain a high-performing surgical services team.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to optimise patient care pathways and surgical throughput.
  • Champion a patient-centred culture aligned with the organisation's mission and values.
  • Lead service line growth initiatives and support the organisation's strategic planning efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Montana RN licence, or eligibility to obtain prior to start date.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience as a Surgical Services RN.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience at the Manager or Director level within surgical services.
  • BLS certification required upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MSN, MHA, or MBA) strongly preferred.
  • PALS and ACLS certification (required within six months of hire).
  • Demonstrated success in driving quality outcomes, managing perioperative budgets, and leading organisational change.

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary: $120,000 – $165,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Paid time off, retirement plan, and professional development support.
  • Relocation assistance available for the right candidate.
  • A collaborative, mission-driven environment in one of Montana's most scenic and vibrant communities.
