JOB DESCRIPTION: OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

Join one of the most trusted Certified Mental Health Centers in the Chicagoland area, A Beautiful Mind, Inc, in this role as an Occupational Therapist at our Chicago location.

The Occupational Therapist is consistent with the AOTA, Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants are experts at analyzing the performance skills and patterns necessary for people to engage in their everyday activities in the contexts and environments in which those activities and occupations occur. The practice of occupational therapy includes methods or strategies selected to direct the process of interventions and evaluation of factors affecting activities of daily living (ADLs), instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), education, work, play, leisure, and social participation.

The Occupational Therapist functions as autonomous practitioners and are responsible for all aspects of occupational therapy service delivery. They are accountable for the safety and effectiveness of the occupational therapy service delivery process. Knows, follows, and actively supports the philosophy, mission, and vision of A Beautiful Mind. Adheres to all agency policies, procedures, and standard of care. Observes and adheres to all corporate compliance requirements and communicated issues as they arise to be appropriate parties as identified in the Corporate Compliance Plan.

Essential Job Functions:

Recommends appropriate treatment intensity and discharges patient when the individual no longer meets criteria for level of service, meets goals, reaches prior level of function or is no longer in need of / benefiting from skilled intervention.

Reviews patients’ medical history, ask questions of patients, and observe patients while they are doing tasks.

Evaluate the patient’s condition and needs.

Develop treatment plans for patients by identifying specific goals and the types of activities that will be used to help the patient work toward those goals.

Assists people with various disabilities perform different tasks, such as teaching a stroke victim how to get dressed.

Demonstrate exercises (e.g., stretching the joints for arthritis relief) that can assist relieve pain in persons with chronic conditions.

Evaluate a patient’s home or workplace and, on the basis of the patient’s health needs, identify potential improvements, such as labeling kitchen cabinets for an older person with poor memory.

Meets core clinical competencies for level of care and completes annual competencies as per department. Seeks educational opportunities to advance clinical skills; regularly attends department in-services, as appropriate.

Educate a patient’s family and employer on how to accommodate and care for the patient.

Assess and record patients’ activities and progress for patient evaluations for billing, and for reporting to physicians and other healthcare providers.

Develop individual and group activities for our Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program.

Demonstrates a solution-oriented approach toward obstacles.

Identify opportunities for process improvement and/or improved service delivery.

Treatment Plans

Participate in conducting Psychosocial Rehabilitation classes, create curriculums, write groups and individual SOAP notes.
