Job description

We are a structural engineering firm in Miami doing 40- and 50-year building recertifications, structural design and permitting, HVHZ roofing packages, milestone restorations, and construction administration across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach.

We are hiring one civil or structural engineering senior, part-time, to do real production work under the direct supervision of our principal engineer. There is a defined path to a full-time Engineer-in-Training position at graduation, and the firm pays for the FE and PE exams.

What you would actually do:

• Recertification inspections under Miami-Dade Sec. 8-11(f), milestone inspections, and site observations, with a camera, a notebook, and a checklist

• Draft the reports that come out of those inspections

• Set up and check structural calculations against FBC 2023, ASCE 7-22, ACI 318, and AISC

• Produce permit drawings and details in AutoCAD

• Review shop drawings against the design documents

Your work gets reviewed by a P.E., sealed, and submitted to the County. It does not go in a drawer.

Requirements:

• Senior standing in an ABET-accredited civil or structural engineering program, graduating within 12 months

• Structural analysis, steel design, and concrete design coursework completed

• AutoCAD

• Valid driver's license and willingness to do field work, including a roof in August

• Clear writing

• Intent to get licensed (we pay for the FE and the PE)

Spanish is useful here. FE passed or scheduled is a plus. Interest in the electrical side of 40/50-year recertification inspections is a plus. We use AI tools daily in production, and comfort with them helps. None of these are required.

Why a small firm: you work directly with the engineer of record, not three layers below him. You see a project from the first field visit through the County submittal. You learn the Florida Building Code in the HVHZ by applying it.

Pay: $24-26 per hour based on experience. 20-25 hours per week during the semester, more between terms. Mileage reimbursed. Firm-provided laptop, software, and PPE. Schedule flexes around your classes.

How to apply: submit a one-page resume. One page only. If it runs onto a second page, trim it before you apply.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship. We are not able to hire on F-1 CPT or OPT for this position.
