Job description

Build the Financial Foundation for a Growing, Privately Held Industry Leader

Our client is a long-established, privately held transportation company with approximately $250 million in annual revenue, a strong reputation in its industry, and an exceptional history of employee tenure.
The organization is seeking a Corporate Controller to lead corporate accounting, strengthen financial reporting and controls, and serve as a trusted partner to the CFO and senior leadership team.
This is an opportunity for an accomplished accounting leader—or a high-performing Assistant Controller or Accounting Director ready for the next step—to take ownership of a broad corporate accounting function while helping shape the company’s continued growth.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the CFO, the Corporate Controller will oversee the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the company’s financial reporting and accounting operations.
You will lead an established accounting team, partner across the organization, and help improve processes, reporting, controls, and the use of Workday Financials. The role combines hands-on accounting leadership with meaningful executive visibility and business partnership.
What You’ll Do
Lead Corporate Accounting and Financial Reporting
  • Oversee corporate accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and close activities.
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial results.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, dashboards, and supporting analyses.
  • Ensure accounting practices and financial reporting remain compliant with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Maintain the integrity of the chart of accounts, accounting policies, and financial data.
Strengthen Controls and Processes
  • Evaluate and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, documentation, and approval processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across the accounting function.
  • Optimize accounting workflows and reporting capabilities within Workday Financials.
  • Partner with operations and other departments to improve financial processes, data quality, and accountability.
  • Stay current on accounting standards, regulatory developments, and industry best practices.
Partner with Leadership
  • Serve as a trusted financial partner to the CFO, executive leadership, and operational teams.
  • Provide meaningful analysis of financial results, expenditures, trends, and variances.
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Translate complex accounting and financial information into practical business insights.
  • Help strengthen financial understanding and decision-making across the organization.
Lead Audit and Compliance
  • Coordinate the annual external audit and serve as a primary contact for external auditors.
  • Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and management responses.
  • Support tax, regulatory, insurance, banking, and other financial compliance requirements as needed.
  • Ensure financial policies and practices are consistently followed throughout the organization.
Develop the Accounting Team
  • Lead, mentor, and develop an accounting team that includes an Accounting Manager and accounts payable professionals.
  • Establish clear expectations, priorities, and accountability across the function.
  • Support employee development, succession planning, and continuous improvement.
  • Foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture that values accuracy, responsiveness, and partnership.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • Approximately 8–12 years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful leadership responsibility.
  • Experience leading financial reporting, close processes, audits, internal controls, and accounting operations.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting professionals.
  • Experience partnering with senior leadership and operational stakeholders.
  • A practical, hands-on leadership style combined with strong strategic judgment.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and maintain accuracy in a complex, deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA or active progress toward CPA certification.
  • Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Director of Accounting, Accounting Manager, Divisional Controller, or Plant Controller.
  • Experience in transportation, logistics, distribution, manufacturing, energy, industrial services, or another asset-intensive business.
  • Experience working within a privately held, multi-location, or operationally complex company.
  • Experience implementing, optimizing, or working extensively with an enterprise ERP platform.
Technology Experience
  • Experience with Workday Financials is highly desirable but not required.
  • Candidates with experience in SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, JD Edwards, Infor, or a comparable enterprise ERP platform are encouraged to apply.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using financial reporting and analytical tools.
What Success Looks Like
During the first year, the Corporate Controller will be expected to:
  • Build strong working relationships with the CFO, accounting team, and operational leadership.
  • Ensure consistent, accurate, and timely financial reporting.
  • Strengthen close processes, controls, policies, and financial documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve Workday Financials and related accounting workflows.
  • Develop and support the accounting team while establishing clear accountability.
  • Deliver actionable financial information that supports sound business decisions.
  • Help position the finance organization for the company’s next stage of growth.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
  • Join a stable, privately held transportation leader with approximately $250 million in annual revenue.
  • Become part of an organization known for employee loyalty and long-term tenure.
  • Report directly to the CFO and work closely with senior leadership.
  • Lead an established accounting team with broad organizational visibility.
  • Influence accounting processes, controls, reporting, technology, and team development.
  • Work within a company that values relationships, institutional knowledge, and long-term contribution.
  • Pursue meaningful advancement as the finance organization continues to evolve.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Base salary range: $145,000–$170,000, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and overall fit.
  • Performance-based annual bonus opportunity.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Long-term professional growth and advancement opportunities.
Work Location
This is an onsite leadership position based at the company’s headquarters in Enid, Oklahoma. Some scheduling flexibility may be available based on business needs, but regular onsite presence is essential to building relationships and partnering effectively across the organization.
