Job description

The Opportunity
Our client is a civil litigation boutique firm where trial attorneys actually try cases — from intake through verdict. No hand-offs. No rainmaker sitting on top of a billing pyramid. If you are the attorney who keeps a running trial calendar, who knows the names of every judicial assistant in Contra Costa County, and who has grown tired of watching your work get redirected at the last mile, this is worth ten minutes of your time.
The firm handles general liability, commercial & business disputes, construction, transportation, real estate, OSHA, and 24/7 emergency response matters across California. You will own your cases end-to-end and work directly with firm partners — not through layers of middle management.
What You Will Do
  • Manage a civil litigation caseload from initial investigation through trial and post-trial proceedings
  • Develop case strategy, lead depositions, draft and argue motions, and first-chair trials
  • Collaborate directly with firm partners on complex multi-party matters
  • Supervise and mentor associate attorneys and support staff on your matters
  • Engage directly with clients, experts, mediators, and opposing counsel
  • Maintain a practice that's actually tried — not routinely settled under pressure
What You Bring
  • 7–10 years of California civil litigation experience with meaningful trial time — bench and/or jury
  • Active California Bar membership in good standing
  • Deep familiarity with the California Rules of Court, Evidence Code, and local Contra Costa/Bay Area practice
  • Ability to manage your own docket with minimal oversight
  • A book of business is welcome but not required — we want the right litigator first
  • A preference for smaller-firm dynamics: direct partner access, lean teams, and real ownership over outcomes
Compensation & Culture
  • Base salary $190,000 – $260,000 depending on experience and book of business
  • Performance-based bonus structure

  • Walnut Creek office with Southern California satellite presence
