Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring 2 years of acute care experience with at least 1 year in PCU.

Details
  • Mixed-acuity surgical oncology unit caring for both PCU and Med Surg patients
  • Patient population includes adult and geriatric surgical oncology patients (breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics/reconstructive cases)
  • Staffing ratio goal is 1:4, though may be up to 1:5
  • Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30)
  • Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs with no set or blocked scheduling
  • May be scheduled for a rotating combination of day and night shifts based on department needs, with assignments reviewed every 4-week period
  • Floating required within scope of practice
  • Uses Epic charting system
Requirements
  • Active RN license (Ohio or Compact) required in hand at time of consideration
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • ONS Chemo certification preferred
  • 2 years of acute care nursing experience required, with at least 1 year of current PCU experience within the last 12 months
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Skills in respiratory care, BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), and tracheostomy care
  • Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management experience
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; Charge RN acceptable for second reference; coworker references not accepted
Additional Information
  • Care for surgical oncology patients including chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, insulin and heparin drips, and management of oncologic emergencies including cytokine release syndrome
  • Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
  • All permanent staff are PCU trained, providing a supportive team environment
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • RTO must be submitted with application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
  • Former employees eligible for travel assignment after 6+ months away from the facility
  • Current employees of Ohio State University hospital locations are ineligible to be hired as travelers
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract, as this is a time-sensitive requirement for compliance
