ZipRecruiter-Confession-Bear-Hire-The-Other-Guy

The meme: Confession Bear

The scenario: A hiring manager asks you why you’re the best candidate for the position. Your confidence isn’t exactly through the roof and it shows. You might not go so far as saying you’re not the best (as our poor friend Confession Bear did), but you also don’t advocate strongly for yourself and your abilities.

What you can learn from Confession Bear: Confidence is king. If a hiring manager sees that you don’t have faith in yourself, then how can she hire you? If you feel like Confession Bear feels, then it’s time to re-frame your mindset. Think about your past accomplishments and relive the outcomes in your head. It might sound silly, but it works. When you visualize yourself achieving past successes, you will start to feel more successful. You can also focus on some of the less tangible aspects of yourself, such as a strong passion for outcomes and an excitement for the position you’re vying for.

If all else fails, then take my mother’s advice: “You’ve gotta fake it till you make it, and sometimes that’s not until you’re 40… or 50.”

Have you ever felt like Confession Bear? What did you do to overcome the negative feelings?
