Probation (a.k.a. My First Day at ZipRecruiter)

Hi. My name is Rachel Dotson, and you’ll be hearing from me a lot here.

I’m a little over an hour into my first day at ZipRecruiter, and still getting a feel for things. The culture, it seems, is one defined by creativity, knowledge and information sharing, autonomy mixed with collaboration, and let’s not forget, sarcasm. While writing this, Ian lets me know it’s okay to put on my headphones to block out their chatter, after which, “Tomorrow, you can feel free to speak. Today, just absorb.”

As I sit here, absorbing, let me share a little about myself.

I did my undergrad at Alma College in Michigan, where I double majored in Political Science and Communications, and where I developed a strong passion for print journalism. After realizing that print journalists are a dying breed, I shifted my focus to corporate communications. For the past nine months I worked at a startup aimed toward college students, where I headed its communications initiatives — namely, the company blog, social media, press outreach, and email marketing. In my free time I enjoy traveling, sailing, watching Michigan sporting events, and reading current events.

I’m excited to take on some of the communications responsibilities at ZipRecruiter, and look forward to getting to know you better once Ian lets me off probation.
