Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks serves veterans from northwestern Arkansas, parts of Oklahoma, and southwest Missouri. In addition to our main medical center in Fayetteville, we offer a number of services to our patients in six community-based outpatient clinics.

The Psychiatrists shall provide 100% outpatient care working with an interdisciplinary team consisting of three (3) Psychiatrists, one (1) Advanced Practice Nurses, four (4) MH Clinic RN's, seven (7) Social Worker, three (3) clerks, one (1) peer supports, and four (4) Psychologists.
Basic Responsibilities: (Outpatient Psychiatrists are needed)
  • Treatment and professional direction of outpatient/inpatient care as well as outpatient/inpatient care consultations.
  • Provide professional direction and participate in the treatment team to evaluate, develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Develop and implement follow-up plans.
  • Participate in organization meetings and duties of the VA Medical Center as required.
Clinical competence will include:
  • Psychiatric Examinations
  • Diagnostic Formulation
  • Therapeutic Plan
  • Patient Management
  • Discharge summaries
  • Record Keeping/electronic medical records
  • Current practice experience with acute outpatient and inpatient treatment with working knowledge of current pharmacology
  • Current practice experience in completion of involuntary commitment procedures per North Carolina state statues
  • The psychiatrist may answer inpatient consultations. Other duties, as assigned by mutual agreement between the locum tenens and the COR or Contracting Officer.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from an accredited graduate school of Medicine.
  • Must have successfully completed a residency program in psychiatry which has been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association or those Canadian training programs approved by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or other appropriate Canadian medical authority.
  • Must be board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Association.
  • Must be in good standing, and under no restrictions, with the state licensure board in any state in which a license is held.
  • Must maintain current certification in American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
