Zk Developer information

What is a zk developer?

A Zk Developer is a software engineer who specializes in building applications and protocols using zero-knowledge (ZK) cryptography. Zero-knowledge proofs allow one party to prove to another that a statement is true without revealing any underlying information. Zk Developers typically work on blockchain scalability, privacy solutions, and security features using technologies like zk-SNARKs or zk-STARKs. Their responsibilities include designing, implementing, and optimizing cryptographic protocols and integrating ZK proofs into decentralized applications. This role requires deep knowledge of cryptography, blockchain infrastructure, and programming languages such as Rust, Go, or Solidity.

What types of projects and collaborations can a zk developer expect to work on within a blockchain development team?

As a Zk Developer, you will typically work on projects involving zero-knowledge proofs (zk-SNARKs or zk-STARKs) to enhance privacy and scalability in blockchain applications. You can expect to collaborate closely with smart contract developers, cryptographers, and backend engineers to design and implement secure, efficient protocols. Common challenges include optimizing proof generation times and ensuring compatibility with existing blockchain infrastructure. Team structures often encourage knowledge sharing and code reviews to stay updated with the rapidly evolving zk ecosystem, offering ample opportunities for professional growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a zk developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Zk Developer, you need strong expertise in cryptography, blockchain fundamentals, and programming languages like Rust or Solidity, typically supported by a background in computer science or mathematics. Familiarity with zero-knowledge proof frameworks (such as zk-SNARKs or zk-STARKs), cryptographic libraries, and blockchain development tools is essential. Analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are key soft skills that help in designing secure and efficient protocols. These skills are crucial for building scalable, privacy-preserving blockchain solutions and ensuring the integrity of decentralized systems.

What is the difference between Zk Developer vs Blockchain Developer?

AspectZk DeveloperBlockchain Developer
Required CredentialsKnowledge of zero-knowledge proofs, cryptography, programming languages like Solidity or RustUnderstanding of blockchain protocols, cryptography, smart contract development
Work EnvironmentFocus on privacy-preserving tech, cryptography, and zero-knowledge systemsDeveloping decentralized applications, smart contracts, and blockchain infrastructure
Employer & Industry UsageCrypto projects, privacy-focused blockchain companies, DeFi platformsWide range of blockchain companies, startups, and enterprises

While both roles involve blockchain technology and cryptography, Zk Developers specialize in zero-knowledge proofs and privacy solutions, whereas Blockchain Developers focus on building and maintaining blockchain networks and applications. The roles often overlap but serve different technical focuses within the blockchain industry.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Middle/Senior Golang Engineer based in Netherlands.

As a Middle/Senior Golang Engineer, you'll build and evolve high-performance backend services powering modern fintech and Web3 payment products. You'll work extensively with Go, blockchain infrastructure, smart contracts, and EVM-compatible networks. The role covers everything from API and microservice development to transaction processing, cross-chain operations, and secure financial data management. You'll help design reliable systems capable of handling sensitive payment and fund flows with high availability and low latency. Working closely with product and engineering teams, you'll contribute to solutions spanning blockchain, payments, and third-party integrations. You'll also have the opportunity to strengthen production reliability through monitoring, debugging, and observability. This is a fully remote, international engineering environment where technical ownership, security, and scalability are highly valued.

Accountabilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services in Go, with a focus on high-performance and low-latency processing for Web3 and card payment systems.
  • Build and maintain smart contract integrations, including interactions with on-chain data and transaction flows between blockchain networks and application services.
  • Develop and manage APIs connecting blockchain infrastructure, payment systems, and external services.
  • Implement secure and efficient transaction-processing workflows, including asynchronous confirmations and sequential transaction orchestration.
  • Develop services supporting cross-chain token swaps, stablecoin transactions, cryptocurrency transfers, and fund management across multiple blockchain networks.
  • Implement robust security measures for sensitive financial and user data, including encryption, authentication, authorization, and secure data transmission.
  • Build and maintain reliable Go microservices deployed in containerized production environments.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, debug, and improve live systems, with particular attention to payment, transaction, and fund flows.
  • Work with databases to ensure data consistency, integrity, and performance across financial transaction workflows.
  • Contribute to cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and production engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable fintech and blockchain solutions.
  • Continuously improve system reliability, performance, observability, and engineering standards.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of professional experience developing applications with Go, including at least 1 year working on Web3 or blockchain-related projects.
  • Strong understanding of blockchain fundamentals, particularly Ethereum and EVM-compatible networks.
  • Practical experience with smart contracts, Ethereum nodes such as Geth or Infura, blockchain data, and cryptocurrency wallet integrations.
  • Understanding of financial transaction lifecycles within Web3 ecosystems, including token transfers, stablecoins, cryptocurrency transactions, and wallet management.
  • Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and gRPC services, including knowledge of API security and integration best practices.
  • Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL, with a strong focus on consistency, integrity, and performance.
  • Hands-on experience with containerized applications and Kubernetes, including deploying and managing Go-based microservices in production.
  • Solid understanding of cryptographic principles and experience implementing secure storage and transmission of sensitive data.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated delivery processes for Go applications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, particularly when working with complex financial or blockchain transaction flows.
  • Good written and spoken English for technical documentation and collaboration; Ukrainian or Russian communication skills are advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with distributed engineering teams.

Nice-to-have skills:

  • Understanding of zk-rollups, sidechains, and Layer 2 scaling technologies.
  • Experience with monitoring, observability, and service-health tooling for high-volume or financial transaction systems.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform.
  • Knowledge of automated deployment strategies for blockchain and Web3 services.
Benefits
  • Fully remote working opportunity with flexible working hours.
  • Option to work from home or an office environment where applicable.
  • Competitive B2B contract arrangement.
  • Home office allowance.
  • Premium rates for the company's products.
  • Virtual share options scheme available after the probation period.
  • Health insurance coverage after the probationary period.
  • 20 business days of paid annual leave.
  • Paid sick leave.
  • Birthday and work anniversary leave.
  • Additional length-of-service holidays.
  • Access to online events focused on learning, professional development, and team engagement.
  • PE accounting support and assistance.
  • Opportunity to work on innovative fintech, blockchain, and Web3 payment technologies in an international environment.
