Job description

Department: Marketing & Communications

Location: La Sierra University Campus | Marketing Department

Hours: up to 20 hours per week

Position Overview

La Sierra University is seeking creative and detail-oriented student content creators to produce long-form YouTube videos that tell compelling stories about campus life, academics, and student experiences.

This role focuses on creating high-quality, intentional video content designed to inform, inspire, and engage prospective students. Content Creators will be responsible for planning, filming, editing, and publishing videos that highlight what makes La Sierra University unique.

Key Responsibilities

Long-Form Content Creation

  • Plan, film, edit, and publish long-form YouTube videos (5-15+ minutes).
  • Develop structured videos with clear storytelling, pacing, and purpose.
  • Create content such as:
    • Day-in-the-life videos
    • Campus tours
    • Student interviews
    • Academic program highlights
    • Event recaps and features
  • Ensure all content aligns with La Sierra University's brand and messaging.

Pre-Production & Planning

  • Develop video concepts, outlines, and shot lists.
  • Coordinate filming schedules and locations across campus.
  • Prepare interview questions and talking points when needed.

Casting & Student Involvement

  • Identify and recruit students, faculty, and staff to participate in videos.
  • Coordinate and manage on-camera talent.
  • Represent a diverse range of student experiences and programs.

Filming & Production

  • Capture high-quality video and audio on location.
  • Set up basic lighting and framing for interviews and scenes.
  • Film b-roll to enhance storytelling and visual interest.

Editing & Post-Production

  • Edit videos for clarity, pacing, and engagement.
  • Add music, graphics, captions, and transitions.
  • Optimize videos for YouTube (titles, thumbnails, descriptions).

Event Coverage

  • Attend key campus events to capture long-form content.
  • May require occasional evenings and weekends.

Collaboration & Iteration

  • Work closely with the marketing team on content direction.
  • Participate in weekly content reviews.
  • Improve content based on performance data and feedback.

Weekly Expectations

Time Commitment

  • Up to 20 hours per week
  • Flexible scheduling around classes
  • Occasional nights and weekends required

Content Output

  • Minimum: 2 long-form videos per month
  • Goal: 4 long-form videos per month

Videos should be fully edited, approved, and ready for publishing

Qualifications

  • Current La Sierra University student.
  • Strong interest in video production, storytelling, or digital media.
  • Experience in filming and editing video content.
  • Familiarity with YouTube content and best practices.
  • Ability to manage projects from concept to completion

Preferred Skills (Not Required)

  • Experience with editing software (Capcut, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut).
  • Basic understanding of lighting, audio, and composition.
  • Experience conducting interviews or directing on-camera talent.
  • Training will be provided.

What You'll Gain From This Role

  • Technical & Production Skills: Learn how to maintain viewer engagement over 5-15 minutes using pacing, sound design, B-roll, and music transitions. Develop proficiency in industry-standard software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve.
  • Strategic Marketing: Learn how to read the YouTube Studio dashboard (CTR, retention graphs, impressions) to understand exactly why a video succeeded or failed. Understand how a long-form video acts as a top-of-funnel asset that can be chopped up into Shorts/Reels to drive traffic back to the main channel.
  • Professional Soft Skills & Project Management: Structure a messy idea into a coherent, compelling script with a strong hook, body, and call-to-action. Learn how to make subjects (professors, students, alumni) feel comfortable on camera to extract the best soundbites. Manage a production pipeline from pre-production to final export while balancing a university course load.
  • Portfolio: Students can show a library of published, high-production-value videos with verifiable view counts and engagement.

Why This Role Matters

Long-form video allows prospective students to deeply experience campus life before ever visiting. Your work will play a key role in shaping how students and families understand and connect with La Sierra University.
