Job description

The Bezos Earth Fund is looking for a Social Media Specialist who lives and breathes all things digital: someone who can spot a trend before it peaks, turn a complex story into a scroll-stopping Reel, and build an engaged community around work that matters.

This hands-on role owns day-to-day social media strategy and execution, creates original content, and grows and engages audiences across Instagram, LinkedIn, X, YouTube, and emerging platforms. Working closely with external and internal partners across the organization, the Social Media Specialist translates the Bezos Earth Fund's work into clear, accurate, and engaging stories. The ideal candidate is a strong operator who can move work forward independently while navigating a collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media Strategy and Channel Management

  • Own the Bezos Earth Fund's day-to-day presence across social platforms, with an initial focus on Instagram, growing support for LinkedIn, X, and YouTube.
  • Develop channel-specific strategies, editorial calendars, and content plans that advance organizational priorities and grow audience engagement.
  • Stay ahead of platform trends, emerging formats, and creator culture; bring new ideas to the team and pressure test them quickly.

Content Creation and Publishing

  • Create original, platform-native content (including writing copy and building graphics) that makes complex climate, nature, and science topics accessible and compelling.
  • Own the full content workflow from concept through publication, including drafting, coordinating creative assets, and managing approvals.
  • Maintain a consistent voice and visual identity across channels while ensuring content is accurate, timely, and on-brand.
  • Coordinate with creative agencies and other external partners as needed.

Measurement and Continuous Improvement

  • Define and track channel and campaign performance metrics; turn data into clear insights that sharpen content and audience strategy.
  • Monitor peer organizations and platform shifts to identify opportunities for growth, experimentation, and innovation.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience managing social media channels and producing platform-native content for an organization, brand, agency, or mission-driven institution.
  • Hands-on content creation skills: comfortable writing scripts, editing short-form video and creating static content.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to make complex subjects visually engaging and appropriate for different audiences and platforms.
  • Fluency with social media management, analytics tools, and native platform analytics.
  • Working knowledge of content creation tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, CapCut).
  • Sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage sensitive or high-visibility communications.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, or a related field. Four to six years of relevant experience in social media, digital communications, content strategy, or a related area, including hands-on responsibility for managing multiple social platforms.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • May require extended hours for urgent issues, major announcements, events, or established deadlines.
  • This role may require travel.
  • While this position is based in Washington, DC, we will consider highly qualified candidates located outside the area in NYC or Boston.

Salary Range:  $111,000 to $140,000
