At Advocate Health, we’re committed to being a Best Place to Care—where physicians are empowered, heard, and equipped to do their best work. You’ll be part of a leading integrated system with a shared commitment to innovation, well-being, and the communities we serve. Whether you're seeking professional growth, meaningful impact, or a team that lifts you up—this is where it starts.

Position Highlights:

Clinical Care

  • Direct evaluation, stabilization, and treatment of critically ill pediatric cardiac patients, including those with complex single-ventricle physiology, mechanical circulatory support, and transplant-related care.
  • Lead daily multidisciplinary rounds and coordinate individualized care plans.
  • Manage mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic support, vasoactive medications, ECMO, VAD, CRRT, and advanced monitoring modalities.
  • Serve as the primary intensivist responsible for rapid response and code events related to cardiac patients.

Collaborative Environment

  • Partner with congenital cardiac surgeons, pediatric cardiologists, advanced practice providers, and CVICU nursing teams to deliver integrated care.
  • Act as the central clinical liaison for families, providing education, counseling, and updates throughout the surgical care continuum.
  • Coordinate care transitions between the CVICU, step-down units, cath lab, and operating rooms.

Administrative & Leadership Opportunities

  • Support program development for congenital cardiac services and critical care expansion.
  • Participate in departmental committees, strategic planning, and accreditation or regulatory preparedness.

Ideal Candidate:

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in pediatric cardiac intensive care preferred (fellowship may satisfy this requirement depending on scope).
  • Board certification/eligibility in:
    • Pediatric Critical Care Medicine or Pediatric Cardiology or Pediatric Anesthesiology (depending on institutional model).
  • Additional fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care, Congenital Cardiac Critical Care, or equivalent specialized experience required/preferred.
  • Current PALS certification; ECMO specialist training preferred.
  • Competency in management of postoperative congenital cardiac patients, ECMO/VAD support, and high-acuity critical care environments.
  • Expertise in congenital cardiac physiology and surgical recovery pathways.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills in high‑stress, multidisciplinary environments.
