Job Description
Under the guidance of the Executive Director-SWIMS, the Detroit SWIMS Program Director will work with Y team member to help grow the Detroit SWIMS program. The Program Director support the day-to-day operations of Detroit SWIMS and the intent to increase both program quality and the number of children we serve in the tri-county area. The SWIMS Program Director will support the SWIMS Executive Director in developing partnerships with schools, municipalities and other youth-serving organizations.
Qualifications
  • An Associate's degree or equivalent in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field is required. A Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field is preferred.
  • Aquatics program experience is required.
  • 2 years with a Bachelor's degree.
  • 3 years with an Associate's degree or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to aquatics.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Prior experience managing and developing aquatic-related programming is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years' supervisory experience including hiring, managing and developing staff is required.

Essential Functions
  • Work in partnership with the Executive Director-Detroit Swims and the VP of Operations-Community Initiatives to establish a funding case on an annual/seasonal basis based on annual delivery expectations.
  • Contribute to identifying potential supporters and donors to support the program.
  • Contact liaison for the communications and marketing department for Detroit SWIMS.
  • Reach out to schools and community centers with pools, presenting Detroit SWIMS as a partnership opportunity.
  • Orchestrate off-site pool use, communicating with administration, facility staff and YMCA staff to ensure safe execution of the program.
  • Coordinate and recruit an active volunteer base, including program volunteers and working with the Detroit SWIMS Committee members.
  • Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor.

Required Certifications
  • Certifications in CPR-Pro, AED, Emergency O2, First Aid, American Red Cross Lifeguard, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, and YMCA Swim Instructor preferred at time of hire or must be obtained from a YMCA-approved instructor within three months of hire
