Middle School Yearbook Sponsor Job Description
The Middle School Yearbook Sponsor is responsible for organizing, advising, and supervising the development and production of the school yearbook. The sponsor works collaboratively with students, staff, photographers, and the yearbook publishing company to create a high-quality publication that accurately reflects the school year, student activities, and school culture. The sponsor promotes student leadership, responsibility, creativity, and teamwork throughout the yearbook process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision
? Recruit, organize, and supervise student yearbook staff members.
? Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive environment for all students involved in
yearbook activities.
? Teach and model professionalism, responsibility, communication, and teamwork.
? Schedule and facilitate regular yearbook meetings and work sessions.
? Monitor student participation, progress, and completion of assigned tasks.
Yearbook Planning and Production
? Develop and oversee the yearbook theme, layout, design, and content.
? Create and maintain a production schedule to ensure all deadlines are met.
? Coordinate student assignments for writing, editing, photography, layout design, and
page creation.
? Review and edit all yearbook content for accuracy, appropriateness, grammar, and
quality.
? Ensure that the yearbook represents a wide variety of students, programs, clubs,
athletics, and school events.
? Work directly with the yearbook publishing company regarding production timelines,
proofs, invoices, and final submission.
? Maintain organization of photographs, student records, and digital files related to
yearbook production.
School and Community Coordination
? Collaborate with teachers, coaches, club sponsors, and administrators to gather
information and photographs.
? Attend selected school events, activities, and programs as needed to support yearbook
coverage.
? Promote yearbook sales and distribution to students and families.
? Coordinate yearbook distribution activities at the conclusion of the school year.
Financial Responsibilities
? Maintain accurate records of expenditures, sales, and financial transactions.
? Follow district procedures for purchasing and financial accountability.
Qualifications
? Valid teaching license or approved staff status within the district preferred.
? Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
? Knowledge of basic photography, graphic design, writing, and editing preferred.
