Description
DEFINITION
To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks during snow removal operations; to operate heavy construction and maintenance equipment.
Effective 10/26/2026, wages will increase to $31.1478 - $36.0575
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives immediate supervision from Public Works Maintenance Manager, or designee.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Operate snow removal and maintenance equipment such as loaders, graders, snow plows, and blowers to perform a variety of maintenance and snow removal operations involving streets, roadway shoulders and storm drains.
  • Install traffic cones, lights, signs, and barricades as necessary.
  • Repair drainage ditches, storm drains, catch basins, and storm drain pipes.
  • Perform work in emergency situations as required.
  • Maintain daily work and vehicle operation logs.
  • Perform normal maintenance on heavy equipment including welding of chains and hard facing.
  • Perform general building and facility maintenance as required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • Uses, methods, techniques, tools, and the operational characteristics of mechanical equipment used in the construction and maintenance of streets.
  • Operation of a variety of light and heavy power-driven equipment and snow removal equipment.
  • Traffic laws and rules used in truck and heavy equipment operations.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.
Ability to:
  • Operate a variety of heavy and light power-driven equipment, both gas and diesel.
  • Attach auxiliary pieces of equipment to power-driven equipment.
  • Work independently in absence of supervision.
  • Perform heavy manual labor.
  • Learn, understand, and interpret departmental policies and regulations.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Experience and Training:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical wayto obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
One year of experience involving the operation of heavy maintenance equipment, including motor graders, loaders, plow trucks, and snow removal equipment.
Training:
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of an appropriate, valid California Class B driver's license. Possession of or ability to obtain within the first year of employment, a valid Class A driver's license is preferred, but not required.

Part-time positions carry a maximum of 960 total paid hours per fiscal year and are not a guarantee of future employment with the Town of Mammoth Lakes.
