Job description

Position Overview: The Log Yard Operator play a crucial role in the efficient and safe handling of timber within our log yard facility. You will be responsible for organizing, sorting, and preparing logs for processing, ensuring that our operations run smoothly while adhering to safety and environmental guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive incoming logs from harvesting operations and organize them based on size and quality.
  • Safely and efficiently operate log yard equipment including cranes, dozers, log loaders, and skidders to perform tasks such as loading, unloading, and moving logs and other material.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of logs within the yard, including quantities and condition.
  • Coordinate with the procurement team to replenish log supplies as needed.
  • Inspect logs for defects, damage, or contamination, and separate them accordingly to maintain the quality standards of our products. Identify and report any issues or abnormalities in the log yard operations.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries in the workplace. Promote a culture of safety among team members and report any safety hazards or concerns to management promptly.
  • Ensure that log yard activities comply with environmental regulations and best practices for sustainable forestry.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other departments, such as production transportation, and maintenance, to coordinate workflow and optimize overall operations.
